An exciting new opportunity opened for an experienced short-term congestion trader to join and become a core part of our US congestion optimization team. The US congestion trading desk at RWE manages the long- and short-term congestion exposure of our existing renewables portfolio. Our trading activities are focused around various ISOs across the US (e.g. ERCOT, NYISO, SPP, MISO, PJM). ย 

Your role is to develop and execute trading strategies in multiple US congestion markets, develop and maintain our pricing models and to deploy trading capital to make profitable decisions. You will be managing, optimizing and maximizing the congestion revenues for our assets in the US. Furthermore, you will closely work with a fast growing team of energy trading professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities:ย 

  • Develop, optimize and execute our short-term (day-ahead) congestion trading strategies in various ISO regions (e.g. ERCOT, NYISO, SPP & PJM)
  • Analyze and formulate opinions about short-term market risks and opportunities to take positions in the Dayahead market
  • Utilize and finetune our quantitative analysis techniques and machine learning approach
  • Applyย our fundamental market models to test and derive your trading strategy
  • Build and maintain relationships with our fundamental market experts and various other experts across the group (e.g. AI modelling experts)
  • Build-up performance dashboards and automate workflows to streamline our daily trading routineย

ย Your powerful skills

  • University degree in Mathematics, Economics, (Electrical) Engineering or related fieldย 
  • Experience in electricity markets (e.g. in a commercial, consulting or similar role) ย 
  • Deep understanding of commercial dependencies and influencing commercial acumen
  • Demonstrate a self-confident natural behavior and be comfortable to handle uncertain (market) situations
  • Excellent analytical mindset, striving for optimization and performance
  • Strong team player & excellent communicator with a high degree of personal commitment, motivation and theย 
    ability to work independentlyย
