What is a Shopify store?

A Shopify Store job involves managing, designing, and optimizing an online store built on the Shopify platform. Responsibilities can include product listing, inventory management, store customization, marketing, and customer support. Some roles focus on development, such as coding custom themes or apps, while others handle business operations. The job may also involve analyzing data to improve sales and enhance the customer experience. Shopify store jobs can be full-time, freelance, or contract-based, depending on the business needs.

What are some typical daily tasks involved in managing a Shopify store?

Daily responsibilities for managing a Shopify store typically include updating product listings, processing orders, and responding to customer inquiries. Managers often oversee promotional campaigns, monitor site analytics, and coordinate with inventory suppliers to ensure products remain in stock. They may also troubleshoot website issues, implement new features or apps, and keep the online storefront visually appealing and user-friendly. Working collaboratively with marketing, design, and customer support teams is common, as cross-functional efforts are key to driving traffic and improving the store’s performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Shopify store position, and why are they important?

To excel in managing a Shopify store, candidates must have strong e-commerce knowledge, digital marketing acumen, and proficiency with website management. Familiarity with Shopify’s platform, including Shopify Admin, app integrations, and payment gateways, is highly valued, and completion of Shopify Partner or e-commerce certification courses can be an asset. Strong attention to detail, customer service orientation, adaptability, and analytical thinking help professionals stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for delivering a seamless shopping experience, optimizing sales, and effectively growing an online business.

Job Description

The E-Commerce Manager will oversee all aspects of San Diego Wave FC’s online shopping, mobile app, and official website operations, focusing on creating exceptional user experiences across sandiegowavefc.com, sandiegowavefc.store, and San Diego Wave FC mobile app. This role will develop and execute e-commerce strategies, optimize journeys, create custom landing pages and splash screens, maintain and upkeep all platforms with relevant news and products, and drive revenue through integrated campaigns and promotional efforts. The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter with a thorough understanding of online platforms and customer UX/UI, and a proven track record of managing complex digital projects in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time role based in San Diego, California. Depending on education, skill set, and experience, the annual base salary range is $90,000-100,000.

Role responsibilities
  • Take the lead on all changes and additions to sandiegowavefc.com, working hands‑on in WordPress with projects including, but not limited to, site design, page builds, content updates, editorial content, plugin/theme management, and troubleshooting.
  • Own the user experience across both sandiegowavefc.com (WordPress) and the Shopify store, ensuring a consistent, high‑quality experience as fans move between the two.
  • Develop and execute the e‑commerce strategy aligned with overall business goals to drive online revenue and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Own and execute San Diego Wave FC’s e‑commerce roadmap, prioritizing initiatives to improve on‑site experiences and drive revenue.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the online store, ensuring an optimized user experience, accurate product information, and seamless checkout processes.
  • Manage site navigation, product creation, and merchandising to deliver a best‑in‑class product experience.
  • Oversee daily site maintenance across sandiegowavefc.com and the Shopify store, ensuring a smooth, frustration‑free customer experience with attention to quality assurance.
  • Implement processes to improve web production tasks, including product activation, promotions/sales, on‑site search maintenance, and marketing content updates.
  • Ensure seamless integration and consistent look/feel between the WordPress site and Shopify store for a unified digital presence.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for any outside web development support, as needed, to supplement in‑house WordPress and Shopify work.
  • Coordinate with ticketing operations and the Marketing Director to ensure proper tracking and seamless linking to Ticketmaster for ticket purchases.
  • Develop web and app strategies for home matchdays, prioritizing key information, storytelling, and promotions into a unique and engaging experience.
  • Ensure platforms meet accessibility, privacy, and security standards, partnering with legal and IT teams as needed.
Wave FC App
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact with Fan Reach (the app’s third‑party developer) for ongoing app upkeep and support.
  • Own push notification strategy and execution, balancing fan engagement with notification fatigue.
  • Coordinate with Fan Reach on bug reports; logging issues, communicating priority, and validating fixes.
  • Keep app content current and aligned with website and store promotions, campaigns, and product launches.
Website, Store & Marketing Strategy
  • Use web analytics, customer insights, industry trends, and customer service feedback to inform future iterations of the website and store experience.
  • Monitor performance metrics including traffic, conversion rates, sales, bounce rate, time on site and provide actionable insights to inform marketing campaigns.
  • Oversee implementation of marketing content, product launches, and site promotions across these platforms.
  • Develop and execute promotional campaigns spanning web and store, including seasonal sales, exclusive product launches, and team‑specific merchandise (e.g., jersey launches).
  • Stay current on industry trends, tools, and technologies related to UX/UI and e‑commerce optimization.
  • Lead the implementation of key website initiatives and other high‑impact projects to enhance user experience and revenue generation.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with merchandise, sales, partnerships, and marketing teams to align digital initiatives with broader organizational campaigns and promotions.
  • Establish cross‑functional partnerships with Marketing, Merchandise, and Brand and Content teams to ensure cohesive storytelling and alignment across platforms.
  • Act as a brand stakeholder for internal business tool improvements and operational communications.
Qualified?
  • 5+ years of experience in e‑commerce and website management, preferably in sports, entertainment, or retail.
  • 4+ years of experience working with Shopify, including app integration and management as well as theme design, with a proven track record of driving results.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress fundamentals (page building, content updates, plugin/theme basics) and comfort taking the lead on hands‑on site changes without relying on outside developers for routine work.
  • Experience coordinating with a third‑party app development vendor on ongoing maintenance, push notifications, and bug resolution (not app development or coding).
  • Proficiency in e‑commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Salesforce) and CMS tools (e.g., WordPress).
  • Strong understanding of SEO, SEM, and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Knowledge and experience with web‑based product, content, and catalog management systems.
  • Successful track record in e‑commerce project management and leading day‑to‑day operations in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross‑functionally in a team environment.
