Staff Accountant (Hybrid Option)
LOCATION: Corporate Office, 253 America Place, Jeffersonville, IN
SUMMARY:
Shoe Sensation, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This position will be responsible for several key accounting and compliance functions, including prepaid expenses, inventory accounting, business licenses, fixed assets, property tax returns, and sales tax returns.
The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller and other members of the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely account reconciliations, and compliance with state and local filing requirements.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
The person who takes on this role will be responsible for:
  • Own prepaid expense accounting, including monthly entries, schedules, and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare inventory-related journal entries and reconcile inventory general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns and reconcile related liability accounts.
  • Prepare business personal property tax returns and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Manage business license applications and renewals for company locations.
  • Prepare and post assigned journal entries as part of the monthly close process.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet, account reconciliations, and research discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for accounting and compliance activities.
  • Respond to routine notices and requests from taxing authorities and governmental agencies.
  • Assist with year-end close, financial statement audits, and tax audits.
  • Work with other departments to research transactions and resolve accounting issues.
  • Assist with accounting process improvements and other projects as needed.
​​WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with journal entries and account reconciliations preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate questions or unusual items.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE
  • Experience in retail or another multi-location organization.
  • Experience with sales tax, property tax, or business licenses.
  • Experience with inventory or fixed asset accounting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or another ERP system.
