Job description

The Shipping Supervisor plays a crucial role in the Logistics department by overseeing all shipping and transportation operations at their assigned location. They act as a primary point of contact for shipping-related processes on the floor, resolving day-to-day shipping issues and collaborating with Operations, the Logistics Supervisor, and Manager to ensure shipments are processed correctly. The Shipping Supervisor also audits client processes, packing processes, shipping, and scanning procedures, and ensures shipments meet client expectations, AMS' expectations, and transportation laws. They work closely with Operations Management teams on training and personnel to ensure proper processes are followed. This role reports directly to the Logistics Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the transportation and service-related floor processes.
  • Supervise building shippers with daily reporting.
  • Track and monitor issues by client by line.
  • Coordinate and lead discussions with shippers on the proper process of shipping set by Logistics and to meet client expectations.
  • Responsible for training employees in packing and shipping functions.
  • Support cross functional teams on maintaining efficiencies and procedures related to shipping.
  • Analyze shipments and shipper performance to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Supervise sorts and carrier pickups.
  • Supervise and advise Operations on hazmat processes and labeling.
  • Create BOL as needed for DHL eCOM international via portal.
  • Various duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Fundamental understanding of 3PL operations, with special focus on shipping.
  • Must be or become D.O.T and IATA hazmat certified within the first 90 days.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational, analytical skills.
  • Customer Service focus - internal and external customers.
  • Problem solving and Analytical skillset.
  • Highly organized.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and projects successfully.
  • Team focused mentality with individual ownership.
  • Strong stress management skills: ability to oversee high pressure and dynamic situations.
  • Domestic transportation or distribution experience.
  • Mode and weight break optimization.
  • Strong understanding of Rate Logic.
  • Fundamental understanding of weights and DIMs.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.

Working Conditions

This job operates in a warehouse environment and could be exposed to various temperature changes as well as noisy and loud surroundings. This role typically requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
