NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Ship Repair Superintendent to oversee major ship repair projects across Navy, MSC, Coast Guard, NOAA, and commercial vessels. This role is responsible for leading project execution, supervising production teams, and ensuring on time, safe, and compliant delivery of all assigned work. The Ship Repair Superintendent will also support business development efforts and report directly to the Regional Manager.
Position Overview:
The Ship Repair Superintendent is responsible for defining, developing, and maintaining production execution for assigned projects. This includes managing teams, reviewing technical documentation, assigning resources, monitoring budgets, and ensuring projects meet organizational goals and performance expectations. This role demands strong leadership, technical knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast paced shipyard environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Execution:
  • Define and maintain production plans for all assigned ship repair projects.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, technical manuals, and process instructions.
  • Develop project work plans with input from production leadership.
  • Approve project related purchases and expenditures.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules and enforce schedule compliance.
  • Track expenditures and revenue for each project to meet margin goals.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction throughout and after the project lifecycle.

Leadership & Workforce Coordination:
  • Assign resources and responsibilities across project teams.
  • Conduct pre job meetings with Production, QA, Accounting, and other key groups.
  • Lead daily or weekly production meetings, depending on project requirements.
  • Train, mentor, advise, and evaluate foremen, leads, and skilled trades.
  • Support workforce planning, manpower forecasting, and jobsite coordination.

Performance Analysis & Quality Oversight:
  • Investigate variances in labor hours, costs, and revenue projections.
  • Identify root causes related to scope changes, performance issues, or new revenue opportunities.
  • Review overall project performance with Production and Estimating teams.
  • Develop standards and lessons learned for future work.
  • Ensure proper adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines.

Cross Functional Coordination
  • Collaborate with Production, Estimating, QA, Procurement, and Accounting departments.
  • Communicate project budgets to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts led by the Regional Manager.
  • Maintain consistent communication with internal management teams and field crews.
Required Education & Experience
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in ship repair or fabrication.
  • Ability to obtain DBIDS and TWIC credentials for access to U.S. facilities.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, ABS, USCG, NAVSEA, and SOLAS requirements.
  • Strong work ethic and self motivated leadership qualities.
Working Conditions:
  • Shipyard and industrial environments with exposure to noise, heat, cold, and confined spaces.
  • Regular visits aboard ships, rigs (onshore/offshore), and industrial facilities.
  • Required use of PPE (hearing, eye, hand, and head protection).
  • Climbing ladders/scaffolding up to 100 feet, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Navigating uneven surfaces, bending, crouching, and working around obstacles.
  • Potential exposure to hot or hazardous materials.
  • Travel required (~10% per year)
