Our fully integrated shop services include state-of-the-art technologies, engineering, design, manufacturing, fabrication, maintenance, and repair.

Job Summary

Ohmstede Ltd is looking for a Boilermaker Helper to perform the necessary tasks required to repair, retube, rebuild and construct shell & tube heat exchangers of various types and other process equipment associated with the Refining, Petrochemical and Chemical Processing Industry.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Must be able to comprehend instructions from supervisors and/or co-workers.
  • Supervises/instructs temp hands for support in completing tasks.
  • Performs lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and workpieces during installation.
  • Attaches sling and operates overhead crane to lift equipment to specified position.
  • Unloads bundles from shell for cleaning and repairs and reinstalls in shell when repairs are complete.
  • Performs breakdown of bundle to include knocking stubs and pulling out tubes.
  • Performs mechanical cleaning including chipping, sawing and grinding.     
  • Performs loading and unloading of furnace.
  • Grind to fit, using portable grinder.
  • Installs test heads on bundles for testing.
  • Performs Hydro test of the assembled vessel or bundle.
  • Assembles and lines up tube sheets and baffles for retubing bundle.
  • Loads tubes into refurbished baffle assemblies.
  • Loads and unloads trucks for transporting heat exchangers.
  • Wear personal protective equipment prescribed by posted signs, written instructions, or specified by supervisor.
  • Must be able to use measuring tape down to 1/16".
  • Responsible for the hookup and breakdown of equipment using proper tools and procedure.
  • Communicates verbally/effectively in English with supervisors and co-workers for resolution of any questions regarding safety, job conduct, and product quality control.
  • Operates equipment or power tools when authorized and qualified to do so and in accordance with established company rules and work orders.
  • Cleans up work area and equipment after work is completed and/or at end of each shift.
  • Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company.
  • Must be able to work, when necessary, plus overtime day or night shift and/or weekends.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of related experience
  • Working knowledge of fabrication shop practice
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings
  • Accurately read and interpret measuring devices
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to bend, push, pull, twist, squat, crawl, lift and reach overhead
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
Work Environment
  • Will work in heat, noisy, dusty, dirty, cold environment
  • May be exposed to chemicals and pinching hazards
