Sr Specialist I, Design โ€“ Wood River Refinery

Location: Edwardsville, IL.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the creation and revision of complex piping designs, ensuring projects meet industry standards and organizational requirements.
  • Oversee and guide the work of other designers, coordinating efforts to deliver accurate, efficient, and safe design packages.
  • Conduct field and document research, develop detailed project scopes, and prepare material takeโ€‘offs for cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with crossโ€‘functional teams, participate in project kickโ€‘off meetings, and support all phases of design from concept through construction.
  • Review documentation, check design packages for completeness and compliance, and update project statuses to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Develop and refine engineering solutions using advanced CAD and 3D modeling tools to produce highโ€‘quality deliverables.
  • Analyze data, monitor practical tests, and coordinate project implementation to optimize quality and productivity.
  • Provide technical support, resolve queries from internal and external partners, and ensure operational compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Supervise and mentor your team, fostering continuous learning and innovation in design processes.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safe, environmentally responsible operations while driving improvements and supporting team development.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in design, engineering, or related roles.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD drafting, 3D modeling, and engineering design software.
  • Experience coordinating the work of a team and managing project deliverables.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willing and able to acquire a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of experience in piping and civil design within a refinery or industrial setting.
  • Certificate in Drafting/Design or higherโ€‘level technical training.
  • Supervisory experience overseeing design teams and mentoring others.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks, and 3D scanning technologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as B31.1, B31.3, and PIP, as well as Refining Engineering Practices (REPs).
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous learning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customerโ€‘focused approach to working with diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Strong analytical and problemโ€‘solving skills, with the ability to work independently and guide others.
Compensation Range

$111,600 - $136,400 annual base salary.
