Roles vary from engineers and operators to safety specialists and maintenance technicians. Responsibilities typically include monitoring equipment, ensuring safety compliance, optimizing production, and conducting maintenance. Employees must follow strict environmental and safety regulations. These jobs require technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and adherence to industry standards.

Shell refinery employees are typically paid on a biweekly or semi-monthly basis, depending on the location and specific employment agreement. Most industrial and manufacturing roles follow standard payroll schedules, and employees should consult their HR department for precise payment details.

What challenges can I expect to face while working at a Shell Refinery?

Working at a Shell Refinery involves managing intricate processes and large-scale equipment, where minimizing downtime and responding quickly to unexpected issues are daily challenges. Employees regularly operate in safety-critical environments, which demands strict adherence to safety protocols and continuous training. You will often collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, technicians, and safety specialists, to ensure smooth operations. Adapting to rotating shifts, handling high-pressure situations, and maintaining precision in a fast-paced setting are also key aspects of the job.

To thrive in a Shell Refinery role, you need a solid understanding of chemical engineering or industrial operations, often supported by a relevant degree or technical training in process technology. Familiarity with refinery process controls, safety regulations (such as OSHA), and systems like DCS (Distributed Control Systems) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for success. These competencies ensure the safe and efficient operation of complex refinery processes while maintaining compliance and supporting team goals.

What degrees does Shell hire?

Shell refinery jobs typically require candidates to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent; however, many roles, especially technical and engineering positions, prefer or require a bachelor's degree in fields such as chemical, mechanical, electrical engineering, or related technical disciplines. Relevant certifications and experience in the energy or manufacturing industry can also be beneficial for certain roles.

Job description

MaintainX is the world's leading AI-powered maintenance and asset management platform, serving 13,000+ customers including Duracell, Shell, Cintas, and Brenntag. We raised $150M in Series D funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Bain Capital Ventures, bringing our total funding to $254M. We were named to the Forbes 2025 Cloud 100, the definitive ranking of the top 100 private cloud companies in the world.

As our first dedicated Solutions Architect for Integrations, you'll sit at the intersection of Sales and our post-sales Integrations team, ensuring every customer commitment is technically sound before a contract is signed. You'll be the person who turns vague integration requirements into clear, scoped blueprints that the implementation team can execute on day one.

What you'll do:

  • Partner with Account Executives in pre-sales cycles to uncover technical and operational pain points related to asset management, and maintenance support.
  • Lead technical discovery conversations with prospects to understand their ERP, CMMS, EAM, and other enterprise systems that need to connect to MaintainX.
  • Produce clear integration scope documents, data-flow diagrams, and effort estimates that serve as the authoritative handoff artifact to the post-sales team.
  • Build and maintain a library of repeatable integration patterns, pre-built assets, and reference architectures to accelerate future deals.
  • Represent integration feasibility and complexity in deal review and pricing conversations, flagging risk proactively to Sales leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with the post-sales Integrations team to refine scoping templates based on what succeeds (and fails) in delivery, and communicate the upcoming pipeline.
  • Deliver live demos and proof-of-concept integrations to prospects when required.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Product to advocate for prospect needs, accelerate deal velocity, and refine value messaging.

About you:

  • 4+ years of experience in a client-facing Solutions Engineering, Pre-Sales, Technical Consulting, or similar role.
  • Deep familiarity with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and modern integration patterns.
  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of APIs, data flows, and systems architecture working across engineering teams and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with iPaaS platforms (Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, Zapier, or similar).
  • Familiarity with SaaS delivery models, including onboarding, post-sale deployment, and customer success workflows.
  • Experience with enterprise systems like ERP or EAM systems (SAP, Oracle, IBM Maximo, Infor, etc.).
  • Proven ability to scope technical work and translate it into effort estimates.

What's in it for you:

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity opportunities.
  • Healthcare, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) / RRSP enrollment program.
  • Take what you need PTO.
  • A Work Culture where:
    • You'll work alongside folks across the globe that reflect the MaintainX values, Smart Humble Optimist.
    • We believe in meritocracy, where ideas and effort are publicly celebrated.

About us:

Our mission is to deliver one platform for maintenance, repair & operations teams to keep the physical world running. We believe the greatest asset in any organization is the people.
