Tenet Desert is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Stroke Coordinator for a nursing job in Joshua Tree, California.

Job Summary:

In addition to professional duties as a regularly scheduled registered nurse in the Emergency Department, the Trauma/Stroke Coordinator provides leadership for the clinical nursing staff in the delivery of trauma and stroke services to all trauma/stroke patients received at Hi-Desert Medical Center. The Trauma/Stroke Coordinator coordinates clinical activities, education and performance improvement activities under the guidance of the Trauma Medical Director, Stroke Medical Director, and the ED Nursing Director.

The TC/SC is also responsible for coordinating and directing activities of the base station as mandated by the County of San Bernardino.

Primary Duties

Participate and guides the orientation of new staff in the care of trauma and stroke patients.

Provides community trauma/stroke education and prevention annually.

Collaborates with the trauma program medical director in caring out the educational, clinical, administrative and outreach activities of the trauma program.

Collect and manage required reporting data for filters and case reviews of county and state authorities. Implements performance improvement data on all trauma and stroke patients and enters it into the trauma database in a timely manner.

Drafts trauma policies and procedures as needed, provides for implementation of new and revised policies when approved.

Prepares quality review reports on a quarterly basis for the trauma and stroke registry.

Monitors trends and sentinel events and outlines remedial action.

Conduct monthly trauma and stroke audits providing feedback to director and nursing staff related to deficiencies.

Attends county meetings related to trauma and reports back to the ED Director.

Provide outgoing data for hospital quality programs and PI initiatives for trauma and stroke programs.

Maintain hospital trauma and stroke registry as required by county and state guidelines without 30-day log discrepancy.

Serves as liaison to administration and clinical staff for trauma and stroke program issues.

Represents hospital professionally in community activities, county and statewide functions including monthly county EMS meetings.

Coordinate communications between the hospital and San Bernardino EMS agencies on matters related to-day-to- day operations of the trauma and receiving stroke center.

Attends meetings of the San Bernardino Trauma Advisory Committee (TAC), Stroke CQI Committee and any county meetings relating to quality control for stroke and trauma care as necessary.

Have knowledge of ICEMA policies and procedures as they relate to the stroke and trauma care system.

Complete, and provide on request, a minimum of (20) hours (internal or external) trauma related (8) hours for stroke related continuing education annually.

Minimum Education/Certification

· Associate’s Degree or diploma from accredited nursing program may be substituted for an AA degree

· Current California Registered Nurse License

· Current BLS and ACLS certification

· MICN certification  

· PALS Certification within 1 year of hire

· NRP certification preferred

Preferred Experience / Certification

· 2-4 years experience as a Registered Nurse in Acute Care

· 1 year experience as a Registered Nurse in an emergency room

· TNCC certification preferred after 1 year
