Job description

WSP is seeking Assistant Project Manager (Power Delivery) – Remote for our Power & Energy Program Management Office in Portland, OR.  The following locations will also be considered: Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, San Diego, CA, Seattle, WA, Boise, ID, Helena, MT and Phoenix, AZ. In this position, you will be responsible for supporting cradle-to-grave execution of high-voltage transmission EPC projects, from project development and design through construction, energization, and final closeout.

This Opportunity

This position supports the administrative, commercial, and technical management of EHV Transmission and Substation projects in accordance with WSP’s core values and the level of project services agreed upon between WSP and its clients.

Assists Project Managers with the successful delivery of assigned projects and portfolios of varying size and complexity by supporting project planning, financial tracking, schedule management, client coordination, quality management, safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance. 

Your Impact

  • Participate in the development of power delivery project proposals, cost estimates, scopes of work, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Participate in the development of work breakdown structures (WBS), project tasks, and cost estimates.
  • Maintain project documentation within designated systems and processes, including the Risk Register 
  • (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety Plan (PSP), and Communications Plan, as required.
  • Assist with facilitating project kick-off meetings and coordinating activities with key stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics, estimate-at-completion forecasts, cash flow, and budgeted margins for assigned projects or portfolios.
  • Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, and change management activities.
  • Coordinate with area and technical managers to address project resource and subcontractor requirements in a timely manner.
  • Assist with subcontractor oversight and the coordination of supplier submittals, invoices, and payments.
  • Participate in problem-project reviews, providing input on root-cause issues, corrective actions, and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular project reports and status updates to clients, technical leaders, and business unit managers.
  • Complete formal project closeout activities, including facilitating and documenting lessons-learned sessions with key project stakeholders.
  • Develop and apply project financial acumen to interpret performance metrics, identify emerging financial risks and opportunities, and support informed project decision-making.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP\'s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to support business and project needs.

Who You Are


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • 3+ years of relevant post education experience within the power delivery/utility industry, or other construction project management role. 
  • Understanding of the project delivery process within the power delivery industry and demonstrated experience supporting project management, project controls, project accounting, project coordination, or related project delivery functions.
  • Competent analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management.
  • Capable critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes. 
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Well-developed with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
  • Effective at coordinating resources, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to complete tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working towards project management certification (e.g., PMP).

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $78,600- $135,000

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $73,100 - $117,700
