Job Summary

The Legal Shared Services Team serves as the operational foundation of the Legal Department, enabling our attorneys, legal professionals, and business partners to deliver exceptional legal services to the business. The Director, Legal Shared Services will lead the team ultimately responsible for legal projects, operational implementation, paralegal services, knowledge management, litigation support, counseling, and continuous improvement initiatives across the department and enterprise.

This role requires a proven strategic leader to guide the Legal Department and partner closely with attorneys, business leaders, and outside counsel to create scalable systems and processes that improve service delivery, reduce risk, manage costs, and enhance the employee and guest experience. The Director will serve as a catalyst for innovation and operational excellence while ensuring the Legal Department remains agile, business-focused, and positioned to support a dynamic and growing organization.

 

Job Specifications: 

  • Starting Wage: $98,736 - $151,902 + annual bonus + equity

Job Responsibilities

Legal Shared Services Leadership

  • Build and shape the future of Legal Shared Services by developing a high-performing team and implementing best-in-class legal operational practices that enable the team to focus on the highest-value strategic legal work.
  • Build a highly engaged, collaborative, and client-focused team committed to delivering exceptional support to internal clients and legal stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to centralize, standardize, and simplify legal support functions to improve efficiency and scalability across the department.
  • Drive a strong team culture of engagement, excellence, inclusion, teamwork, and fun.

Legal Shared Services Implementation

  • Establish service delivery standards, operating procedures, service level expectations, and performance metrics that promote accountability, transparency, and operational excellence.
  • Lead administration and optimization of legal technology platforms, including contract lifecycle management, legal hold management, matter management, knowledge management, and workflow automation systems.
  • Partner with Legal Operations to best determine ways to best execute of the department's legal operations and technology roadmap.
  • Partner with Legal Department leaders to develop meaningful reporting and analytics regarding matter portfolio management, resource utilization, and department performance.
  • Drive initiatives that maximize value, improve forecasting accuracy, and support responsible stewardship of department resources.

Knowledge Management, Counseling, & Litigation Support

  • Lead development and maintenance of departmental playbooks, templates, forms, training resources, standard operating procedures, and legal self-service solutions.
  • Oversee administration of legal hold, records management, and litigation support processes.
  • Support attorneys and paralegals with efficient matter management, document preservation, case administration, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Establish knowledge-sharing practices that preserve institutional knowledge and improve consistency across legal teams.

Strategic Projects & Change Leadership

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives involving attorneys, legal operations, compliance, technology implementation, business process improvement, integrations, and organizational change.
  • Create dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting that enable data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Legal Department leadership on operational strategy, organizational effectiveness, resource planning, and service delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization and effectively understand the business and business priorities before offering solutions.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, ownership, accountability, credibility, and professionalism when working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Anticipates challenges and proactively develops solutions before issues escalate, and approach problems with curiosity, creativity, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; paralegal and/or legal operations certification, project management certification, or related advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in legal operations, shared services, compliance operations, consulting, business operations, or related functions, including significant experience leading teams and complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success implementing technology and matter management solutions, operational transformations, workflow automation tools, and process improvement programs.
  • Strong financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, accrual management, vendor administration, and analytics.
  • Experience working for major public corporations, including in travel and entertainment.   
  • Creative problem solver with strong management, organizational, and time management skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly under high pressure, meet deadlines, successfully multi-task, and to effectively handle dynamic situations with flexibility, patience, positivity, and tact. 
  • High integrity and capability of building trust and credibility quickly with diverse groups. 
  • Ability to succeed working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. 
  • Commitment to professional growth, enthusiasm, humility, humor, and teamwork. 

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $98,736 - $151,902 + annual bonus + equity. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment for Broomfield-based roles where employees must live within 50 miles of the Broomfield office and work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.
