Job description

Who We Are:

  • We are a competitive, 2A marching band program seeking a percussion instructor for the 2026 marching season.
  • As a staff, we seek to promote a collaborative environment to help our students succeed through excellence in performance.

Qualifications:

  • Attendance at rehearsals and band camp is required (we can work with your schedule if needed)
    • Band Camp is July 27th  31st and August 3rd  7th. 9AM-4PM
    • Rehearsals are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday during the fall semester. 3:45PM-6:15PM.
  • Music education, DCI, or marching band experience preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Marching Band Percussion experience preferred

SALARY: 

  • Stipend Position - depended upon experience

REPORTS TO:

  • The Marching Band Director, Activities Director and/or HS Principal, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the administrative team.

SUPERVISES:

  • Works in conjunction with Marching Band Director to oversee the program.

JOB GOAL: 

  • To instruct band members in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and overall marching band success.
  • At the same time, the assistant must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self discipline, self confidence, and pride of accomplishment.
  • To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through band clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

GENERAL:

  • The success of activities programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not override all other objectives for a successful program.
  • The position includes other unusual aspect such as extended time, risk injury factor and due process predicaments.
  • It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance to function. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that the assistant shall exercise common sense and good judgment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Has a thorough knowledge of all the activities policies approved by the Woodland Park RE-2 Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
  • Has knowledge of existing system, state and regulations; implements same consistently and interprets them for staff.
  • Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Established the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff. Designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to insure staff awareness of the overall program.
  • Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
  • Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the marcxhing band director, activities director/principal.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a mentor to each band member to promote the development and demonstration in band member the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Gives constant attention to a band member's grades and conduct.
  • By his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
  • Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the marching band to each band member who is considered a participant.
  • Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
  • Completes paperwork on all disabling band injuries on proper forms and submits to activities office within 24 hours.
  • Directs student managers, assistants and drum majors.
