Job description


SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently hiring an Operations Manager who is accountable for completing plant operations in a rapidly growing assembly/manufacturing environment. You are responsible for developing and accomplishing all plant objectives in the areas of safety, quality, production, finance, people development, and customer service.
You should be looking for ways to improve the metrics of the operation, through visual, hands-on applications, along with development of the immediate supervisory staff and lead personnel. This position reports directly to the off-site Plant Manager. Therefore, strong communication skills are a critical component to your success in this role.
Please Note - This role will be based on different project sites on a rotational basis.Candidates must be willing to travel and stay on a project for weeks at a time with rotations home.Immediate project sites will be at Eagle Mountain, UT and Los Lunas, MN.Future project sites are to be determined.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, direct, and lead plant operations with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance with regulations and policies
  • Direct, supervise, and develop plant staff for efficient and safe operations
  • Establish, communicate, implement, and enforce safety programs; conduct safety inspections and meetings; ensure proper equipment use and maintenance
  • Establish and monitor plant budget; analyze costs and material usage; develop labor models; identify and implement profitability improvements
  • Recommend purchase of capital equipment and plant expansion
  • Prepare and maintain reports, records, and logs (e.g., budget, production, environmental, safety); handle P&L for operations
  • Foster high customer service levels through on-time deliveries, responsiveness, and quality assurance
  • Meet all customer quality requirements
  • Communicate with company resources to coordinate activities, develop solutions, and reduce waste
  • Employ lean methodologies and tools to achieve business objectives
  • Serve as the go-to resource for all construction products manufactured in the plant
  • Support Plant Manager in developing business cases for new assembly or manufacturing opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferred), business administration, or manufacturing management
  • Resourcefulness and self-starting work habits
  • Problem solving based on information and sound judgment

  • Minimum five years of assembly/manufacturing experience in a leadership role, including safety, quality, people development, production, financial, and inventory management

  • Strong project management, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Experience leading continuous improvement and change management activities
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with a record of building relationships and collaborating across multiple operations and corporate functions
  • Keen business insight and attention to detail with a record of leading change and delivering superior safety and business results
  • Experience with ERP (Oracle) software preferred
  • Driver's license required

The base pay range for this role is $118,600 - $178,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
