Job Summary

City Food Equipment, a leading commercial restaurant equipment company serving the Chicagoland area since 1985, is seeking an experienced Service Department Manager to lead and oversee our commercial equipment service operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing technicians, coordinating service calls, and ensuring efficient, high-quality service delivery to our customers. The ideal candidate is highly organized, mechanically knowledgeable, and experienced in managing service teams in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily service department operations (scheduling, dispatching, workflow)
  • Answer incoming service calls and schedule repair appointments
  • Manage service calendar and technician assignments
  • Coordinate team meetings to ensure communication and accountability
  • Ensure technicians are prepared with proper parts and tools
  • Assist customers with service tickets and repair inquiries
  • Monitor technician performance, paperwork accuracy, and service efficiency
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and corrective actions
  • Prepare quotes, invoices, and process payments
  • Maintain service records, parts tracking, and reporting
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall operations
Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate’s or technical training preferred)
  • 3+ years of mechanical experience (restaurant equipment, HVAC, automotive, or similar)
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • Strong knowledge of equipment, parts, and service processes
  • Ability to create estimates, work orders, and calculate labor
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing a service department (restaurant equipment or similar industry)
  • Familiarity with service/dispatch software
  • Experience improving processes and operational efficiency
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
