What is a service advisor?

A Service Advisor is an automotive professional who acts as the liaison between customers and the service technicians at a dealership or repair shop. They assess customer needs, explain recommended vehicle services or repairs, and provide cost estimates. Service Advisors also schedule service appointments, keep customers informed about the status of their vehicles, and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the repair process.

How does a service advisor typically collaborate with technicians and customers during the repair process?

As a Service Advisor, you serve as the main communication bridge between customers and the automotive technicians in the service department. You are responsible for accurately conveying customers' concerns to the technicians, keeping customers updated on the status of their vehicles, and explaining technical details or repair costs in an understandable way. Effective Service Advisors regularly consult with technicians to clarify diagnoses and repair requirements, ensuring transparency and customer satisfaction. This collaborative approach helps streamline workflow, minimize misunderstandings, and build long-term customer trust.

What does a service advisor do?

As a service advisor, your responsibilities are to address customer questions or concerns about car repair and suggest relevant repair and maintenance options. You may also estimate costs for the vehicle service, present customers with alternative auto solutions, and communicate with an auto repair technician to explain the customer’s requests. This career has both sales and customer service elements since your duties are to persuade customers to purchase the products and services offered by your auto repair center or dealership.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a service advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Service Advisor, you need a solid understanding of automotive systems, customer service expertise, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS), repair order software, and sometimes ASE certification can be highly beneficial. Excellent communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills help build trust and ensure customer satisfaction. These skills are crucial for accurately relaying information between customers and technicians, driving repeat business, and maintaining efficient service operations.

Purpose & Core Values:

Our purpose at Bauer is to enrich life experiences through sports. We have the responsibility to cultivate the future of our brands. We are always "we" and never "I".  We love what we do. We believe anything is possible and work to be our best. We strive to always redefine the standard of excellence in all that we do.

Want to join our team as a PROSHARP Sales Advisor?

As a PROSHARP Sales Advisor, you'll be responsible for building and executing sales targets, driving sell-thru using demos and staff training, and identifying replenishment opportunities across the skate ecosystem. You'll also manage your territory budget and play a key role in activating the brand at the grassroots and retail levels. If you're an activation specialist who thrives on ownership and results, we want to hear from you.

Candidates should be located in the Calgary or Edmonton area to cover the Western Canada region.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Drive territory results with our retail partners within your territory for both commercial and home machines, working hand in hand with the Bauer sales reps within your territory.
  • Lead on-ice demos, in-store training and education of machines.
  • Manage your travel and expense budget, providing quarterly check-ins.
  • Provide basic service on commercial machines, and ensure dealers are signing up for annual service through the booking services calendar.
  • Communicate bi-weekly with Bauer sales reps on opportunities and challenges you are seeing in the field.
  • Integrate with sales reps on replenishment opportunities within the skate ecosystem (footbeds, socks, steel, etc.)
  • Analyze market opportunities through a dashboard tracker for your territory that you will maintain.
  • Maintain great working relationships with store owners, managers and back-shop staff.
  • Track monthly results within your territory and identify opportunities to grow and drive sell thru.
  • Collaborate and share best practices with other advisors.
  • Lead activations at tournaments and team fittings - providing live demo's, explaining features and benefits of our product offering. (example - home machine or profiling)
  • Assist with skate ecosystem training of staff - Blade Fitting, Orthotics, Custom, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience in retail sales or commercial sales or digital sales and/or channel marketing.
  • High level background knowledge in sharpening and profiling in the hockey marketplace.
  • Experience in tracking, managing sales results.
  • Strong understanding of competitive landscape, retail landscape and their buying behavior of hockey.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate at all levels of organization, as well with hockey crazed families (our consumer).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Adjust quickly to changing priorities and business needs.
  • 60-70% Travel as needed and/or required by essential job functions.

Interested yet? Good. We are, too. We're pretty sure you'll want to know this position is eligible to participate in the Company's Annual incentive plan. We also offer one of the most generous benefits packages around including a retirement savings plan with employer match, an employee discount program on apparel and gear, casual & hybrid work environment and a host of other perks we don't have room to mention here.

We are committed to employing a diverse workforce and are an equal opportunity employer.

We use AI-assisted tools during parts of our recruitment process to help ensure fairness and efficiency. All final hiring decisions are made by our human hiring team.
