OVERALL DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Vehicle HVAC Technician to maintain, diagnose, and repair climate control systems on vehicles and equipment. This role is essential to ensuring the comfort, safety, and operational reliability of vehicles by keeping heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems functioning at peak performance.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in HVAC systems, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic components. This position requires hands-on experience troubleshooting complex issues, performing system overhauls, and working with advanced control systems and compressor drive mechanisms.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain vehicle HVAC systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
  2. Perform complete system overhauls, including removal and replacement of major components
  3. Conduct refrigerant conversions in compliance with environmental and safety standards
  4. Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, and microprocessor-based control systems within HVAC units
  5. Service and repair A/C compressor drive systems, including DC motors, power take-offs, shafts, and auxiliary engines
  6. Inspect system components and identify preventive maintenance needs to minimize downtime
  7. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety regulations, technical standards, and operational requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years training at an accredited Technical School or equivalent. In lieu of technical school training, five (5) years practical experience in a related field may be substituted.
  • Must be First Class Qualified Vehicle & Equipment Mechanic.
  • Must satisfactorily complete written qualifications tests specific to this job description and performance tests as required.
  • Must be certified to use and handle refrigerant.
  • Must possess valid driver's license
  • Experience working on mass transit vehicles or heavy-duty fleet equipment is preferred
