We are seeking to hire candidates for our Vehicle Electrical Maintainer - 1st Class (0841) - Rail Vehicles (Rail exp. not required) in our Rail Vehicle Maintenance Shops.
Compensation Data
-for SEPTA City Transit Division: $38/hr. (Increase to $42/hr. after 12 months)
-for SEPTA Suburban Transit Division: $36/hr. (Increase to $40/hr. after 12 months)
-for SEPTA Regional Railroad Division: $37/hr. (Increase to $41/hr. after 12 months)
(Note, Candidate Division selection will be based on the needs of SEPTA)
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Seeking Rail Vehicle Electrical/Electronic Maintainers in our City, Suburban, and Railroad Transit Divisions for current and future openings who will be responsible for the inspection, adjustment, repair replacement and overhaul of Rail Vehicles and related accessories.
Inspects, tests, renews, and fabricates electric and electronic controls, HVAC systems, wiring, current collection and associated accessories used primarily in the repair of rail vehicles.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
  1. To be experienced and proficient in the inspection, test, renewal, and fabrication of electric and electronic controls, HVAC systems, wiring, current collection and associated accessories used primarily in the repair of rail vehicles.
  2. Inspects, tests with meters to determine extent of repair or replacement of parts required; performs layout work; makes wiring diagrams indicating new or relocated circuits; installs wiring hookups, rewires damaged or burnt-out circuits.
  3. Dissembles, inspects, repairs, renews, gauges, tests, cleans, paints, replaces, rewires, adjusts, reassembles, assembles as required: contactor parts, group switches, contactor box parts, sequence switch parts, rail vehicle controllers, breakers.
  4. Disconnects wiring and bolts and removes controllers from compartments; replaces or repairs and replaces parts such as overload relays, various types of contractors, resistor coils, various resistance units, contact tip and springs, interlocks and other related parts.
  5. Performs troubleshooting duties on vehicle wiring; performs wiring and conduit work; test electrical equipment; inspects and adjusts for final test.
  6. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school graduate or equivalent required. Secondary or Post-secondary training in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical field is a plus
  • Must have 1-2 years experience in the repair, rewiring, and replacement of Electrical components and Electronic controls. Experience on Rail Vehicle Equipment preferred but not required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete written qualification tests as follows: Advanced Electricity, Basic Math, Hand Tools, Schematics.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • Will be required to possess and/or obtain hand tools as detailed in job description.
  • Must satisfactorily complete performance test as required by labor agreement.
  • Will be required to detail relevant training and work experience when requested.
