What is a Senior Unity Technical Artist?

A Senior Unity Technical Artist is a specialized professional who bridges the gap between artists and programmers in game development, primarily using the Unity engine. They create, optimize, and implement visual assets and effects while ensuring that the final product is both visually appealing and runs efficiently on target platforms. Their responsibilities often include developing shaders, optimizing art pipelines, troubleshooting performance issues, and mentoring junior team members. Senior Unity Technical Artists play a critical role in maintaining high visual standards without compromising performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Unity Technical Artist?

To thrive as a Senior Unity Technical Artist, you need advanced expertise in 3D modeling, shading, texturing, and a deep understanding of Unity’s rendering pipeline, often supported by a degree in art, computer graphics, or a related field. Proficiency with Unity, scripting languages (such as C#), and tools like Maya, Blender, or Substance Painter is typically required. Strong problem-solving ability, collaboration, and effective communication are essential soft skills that help bridge creative and technical teams. These skills ensure visually impressive, technically optimized assets that enhance gameplay and performance across projects.

How does a Senior Unity Technical Artist typically collaborate with other team members during game development?

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology.

Come be a part of what's next. About The Role The Netflix XD Operations team is seeking a Design Program Manager to join our XD Team within our Live On Air Creative division. You will establish and optimize the projects, processes, and pipelines for all visual touchpoints across our premium live broadcasts.

This is a role for a heavy hitter who can drive complex projects from early concept to on-site execution under the high-pressure demands of live events. You will partner with creative leads, tech teams, cross functional partners, and external production vendors to ensure our live presentation sets the gold standard for sports and entertainment. Travel Requirement: Monthly travel required both US national and international including holiday travel due to live + events that occur year round.

Orchestrate Live Operations: Drive the organization, resourcing, and prioritization for premium live event graphics packages and studio design systems. Master the Timeline: Map out and manage complex, concurrent production schedules for multiple major events without breaking a sweat. Manage the Books: Handle line-item project producing, tracking creative deliverables at the artist level while managing technology and production budgets.

Bridge Design and Tech: Establish clear workflows for technical playout requirements, ensuring assets function flawlessly in real-time broadcast environments. Own the Truck Environment: Lead on-site graphics integration from remote production trucks, managing real-time changes and troubleshooting under live-to-air pressure. Build Trusted Partnerships: Act as the primary operational liaison for internal cross-functional teams, external vendors, and executive stakeholders.

Protect the Creative: Safeguard the design process by giving artists the time, space, and clear parameters needed to build elite visual packages. Description of Background The biggest live stages do not rattle you, and the most ambitious deliveries are just another Tuesday. You have deep technical knowledge of how broadcast graphics sit, breathe, and play out in real-time, remote environments.

You can speak fluent artist, fluent engineer, and fluent executive all in the same meeting. Scale and Presence: You have spent a decade guiding high-end productions and know how to keep a steady hand when millions of eyes are watching. Broadcast Fluent: You are deeply familiar with the unique constraints, terminology, and workflows of live remote trucks and studio control rooms.

Fiscal and Operational Muscle: You have a proven track record of managing complex creative budgets, vendor contracts, and resource allocations. On-Site Agility: You are comfortable traveling to events, managing on-site production personnel, and communicating clearly across all levels of a live crew. Industry Experience & Must-Haves 10+ years of experience overseeing creative production teams and partnering with design leadership in high-profile live sports or entertainment environments.

Deep operational knowledge of traditional sports broadcasting, studio environments, and real-time graphics playout platforms. Proven track record managing tech pipelines, budgets, and contractual relationships with premium external partners. Global perspective with experience executing major live events both domestically and internationally.

Expert communication skills with the ability to navigate matrixed corporate structures and deliver crisp updates to premium stakeholders. An ego-free approach to leadership, meaning you welcome candid feedback, learn quickly from misses, and focus entirely on the success of the team. Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses.

You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $260,000.00 - $370,000.00

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits.
