Senior System Administrator

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Space Mission Systems Organization seeks an Senior System Administrator to support Proprietary Programs in Seal Beach, CA.
The Senior System Administrator will handle system administration tasks, including infrastructure management, information security, software installation, and configuration control. This role involves creating innovative solutions to technical challenges, providing system support with modern tools, and overseeing the design and performance of computing systems for effective capacity planning and disaster recovery.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Oversees system integration, hardware and software installation, configuration and disposition of servers, storage, and workstations to support the architecture
  • Provides complex problem resolution, root cause analysis and technical support for delivery systems
  • Participate in the design, validation and configuration management of computing delivery systems
  • Administers user system access and establishes safeguards to protect information in accordance with security policies
  • Oversee activities to monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring high availability, reliability, backup and disaster recovery planning, security and conformance to Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements
  • Plans and coordinates system changes
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate services and enhance system capabilities and operational efficiency
  • Engage in on-the-job training, self-study, and hands-on learning to develop your skills in Linux and cloud technologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support program objectives in an Agile framework
  • Mentors, leads and trains others

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Possess an active Top Secret with SCI US Security Clearance (TS/SCI), or successfully completed a Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the past 5 years or agreed to enter a Continuous Vetting program such that 5 year updates are no longer required
  • Experience working with Linux and/or Solaris; installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and administering support for server and workstation

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience working with RHEL 8/9 and/or Solaris 10/11
  • Experience working with VMware ESXi 8/9
  • Security hardening experience or knowledge
  • Cybersecurity experience or knowledge
  • Experience simplifying, automating, and optimizing patch management and/or compliance of operating systems and applications
  • User access and identity management experience or knowledge
  • Experience maintaining storage and data archival systems
  • Active security certifications such as Security+ (Sec+) or equivalent IAT Level 2 certifications per DoD Instruction 8570 (8140)
