STACK Infrastructure Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior System Administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior System Administrator, you need in-depth knowledge of operating systems, networking, security protocols, and significant experience managing IT infrastructure, usually backed by a degree in computer science or related certifications (such as CompTIA, Microsoft, or Cisco). Expertise with tools like VMware, Active Directory, PowerShell, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure reliable system performance, minimize downtime, and support the technology needs of an organization.

What are some common challenges a Senior System Administrator may encounter when managing hybrid cloud environments?

Senior System Administrators often face challenges balancing on-premises infrastructure with cloud-based resources, which can include ensuring consistent security policies, managing data synchronization, and monitoring system performance across multiple platforms. They must also stay updated on evolving technologies and compliance requirements, as well as collaborate closely with development, security, and networking teams. Addressing these complexities requires strong problem-solving skills, robust documentation practices, and a proactive approach to both troubleshooting and automation.

What does a Senior System Administrator do?

A Senior System Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing an organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and related systems. They oversee the installation and configuration of hardware and software, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and ensure the reliability and performance of IT services. Senior System Administrators also implement security policies, perform regular system updates, and may supervise junior IT staff. Their expertise is essential for minimizing system downtime and protecting data integrity.

Job description

Job Summary:
STACK Infrastructure is an award-winning industry leader in building, owning, and operating highly efficient digital infrastructure. They are seeking a Senior Manager of Digital Workplace Productivity & Collaboration to lead the Continuous Improvement & Continuous Delivery function within Global IT, managing a cross-functional engineering team and overseeing platform enhancements and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities:
• Stand up the Continuous Improvement & Continuous Delivery function as a formalized capability within Global IT, defining its charter, service boundaries, intake criteria, prioritization framework, and sprint-based delivery methodology.
• Build and manage a team of 4–8 engineers spanning M365 administration, Azure infrastructure, SharePoint development, Power Platform, and ITSM platform engineering.
• Operate a backlog-driven delivery cadence using Azure DevOps Boards for all enhancement work, with defined sprint ceremonies, demos, and retrospectives.
• Establish clear intake, escalation, and handoff criteria between the service desk (Tier 1–2), the development track, and the PMO to eliminate operational gaps.
• Build demand management and capacity-planning processes to balance incoming requests with team bandwidth across global regions.
• Define and publish track KPIs: backlog velocity, sprint completion rate, cycle time, stakeholder satisfaction, and adoption impact per delivered enhancement.
• Own FreshService ITSM governance, including Change Advisory Board (CAB) process oversight, service catalog strategy and curation, and SLA/escalation policy configuration.
• Build and maintain Power BI executive dashboards and KPI reports covering ITSM metrics (MTTR, SLA compliance, CSAT), M365 platform health, and CI/CD track delivery performance.
• Conduct platform configuration reviews for FreshService, SharePoint, and Power Platform changes before production deployment, ensuring quality and compliance standards.
• Provide senior technical triage and guidance when the team encounters complex cross-platform issues requiring hands-on investigation.
• Own the post-deployment lifecycle for all M365 and SharePoint initiatives, ensuring delivered capabilities are optimized, adopted, measured, and continuously refined.
• Prioritize and oversee SharePoint Online platform improvements — information architecture refinements, permissions remediation campaigns, search optimization, and storage governance — delivered by the SharePoint Information Architecture and Governance Lead.
• Implementation experience to prioritize and track Microsoft Purview feature rollouts (sensitivity labels, DLP, retention policies) in partnership with Legal, Compliance, and Cyber Security stakeholders.
• Manage continuous improvement of endpoint management configurations — Intune policies, Autopilot profiles, patch management — in coordination with the Endpoint Engineer, based on operational telemetry and support trends.
• Coordinate with the PMO to absorb post-project stabilization work and identify when enhancements warrant elevation to formal project status.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for business stakeholders requesting platform enhancements and process improvements that exceed standard support scope.
• Conduct quarterly business reviews with regional IT leads and business unit stakeholders to align the backlog to organizational priorities.
• Maintain stakeholder transparency through published backlog views, sprint status reporting, and proactive communication on delivery timelines.
• Present track performance and business impact to VP-level leadership through executive dashboards and quarterly outcome reviews.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of M365 engineers, SharePoint developers, and platform specialists.
• Establish engineering standards, including code review practices, solution documentation requirements, testing protocols, and knowledge base contributions.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning, cross-training, and professional development across the M365 technology stack.
• Manage vendor and contractor relationships for specialized or surge-capacity work, ensuring deliverables meet internal quality and security standards.
• Ensure all continuous delivery work adheres to FreshService change management processes (CAB review), security review gates, and SOX compliance controls.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 8+ years of progressive experience in enterprise IT with at least 3 years leading technical teams in a people-management capacity.
• Deep expertise across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem: SharePoint Online, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Teams, and related workloads.
• Proven experience establishing or leading a platform engineering, continuous improvement, or digital workplace engineering function.
• Strong command of agile delivery methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and backlog management tools (Azure DevOps Boards, Jira).
• Experience building Power BI dashboards and operational reports for executive audiences.
• Experience with demand management, capacity planning, and work intake prioritization for IT engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional stakeholder relationships at the director and VP level and communicate in executive-ready formats.
• Solid understanding of ITIL v4 service management practices, change management governance, and IT risk frameworks.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred:
• Experience evaluating or piloting AI-driven productivity tools (e.g., Copilot for M365, Copilot Studio, Azure OpenAI integrations) is a plus.
