Job description

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Remote position with a Renowned Healthcare Organization located in Rochester, MN. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.
Compensation: $80.00 - 84.00 per hour, W2, based on experience and qualifications

Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build back-end services that support a portfolio of data-centric clinical and analytic applications. These applications leverage cloud computing, big data, data science, and machine learning using state-of-the-art software development frameworks. The engineer will ensure that cloud-based micro-services adhere to uptime and accuracy targets, are resilient, and scale as data volumes and traffic increase.
BI Developer to own the semantic layer and build reporting across Power BI, Tableau, and SAS, with data on Google Cloud Platform / BigQuery via MCC. Works fluently across legacy and target stacks while the SAS MCC Power BI transition is in progress.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Own the semantic layer across SAS, MCC, and Power BI; optimize for performance and consistency
  • Develop Power BI reports and datasets, including advanced DAX
  • Maintain complex Tableau dashboards and transition them onto the target stack where appropriate
  • Support legacy SAS environments well enough to interpret, maintain, and retire them
  • Query and model data on Google Cloud Platform / BigQuery (via MCC) to feed report
  • Document datasets, measures, and lineage so analysts and downstream teams can self-serve
  • Work closely with the Product Owners, Product Managers, and Architects to translate requirements into code
  • Develop services around data warehousing, big data, cloud computing, business intelligence, analytics and machine learning
  • Participate in DevOps, Agile, continuous development and integration frameworks
  • Program in high-level languages such as Go, Python, Java etc
  • Ensure all appropriate documentation of processes and source code is created and maintained
  • Communicate effectively with peers, leaders, and customers throughout the organization
  • Participate in expert level troubleshooting and resolve problems through root cause analysis, data and system investigation
  • Contribute to design and architecture discussions with Principals and Architects
  • Lead targeted cross-functional improvement efforts and mentor more junior software engineers
  • Solve complex problems; take a new perspective on existing solutions
  • Work independently with minimal guidance, leading projects or project steps within a broader project
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience

Core Requirements:
  • 7+ years in data and analytics roles, with 5+ years hands-on BI development
  • Advanced Power BI - DAX, data modeling, visuals, RLS, performance tuning
  • Advanced Tableau - maintains complex existing dashboards; able to transition them onto Power BI
  • Working familiarity with SAS - enough to support, interpret, and retire legacy work
  • Google Cloud Platform / BigQuery (via MCC) - SQL, data access, query performance
  • Semantic layer design and performance tuning across mixed BI tools
  • SQL required; M / Power Query, DAX; Python or R a plus
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA in BI - row-level security, PHI minimization in reports, audit
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with 5 years of experience; OR an Associate's degree in Computer/Science/Engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience
  • In-depth knowledge of software engineering with experience coding applications or services in a high-level language (C, C++, Golang, Java, C#, etc.)
  • Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills
  • Strong technical aptitude for designing and implementing software solutions
  • Experience with modern application development frameworks
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Deep hands-on technical expertise, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Agile software development technique
  • Cross-Stack Fluency: Operates across legacy and target tooling without losing momentum
  • Performance Owner: Treats slow reports and queries as a problem to fix, not live with
  • Clear Documentation: Documents datasets, measures, and assumptions so others can self serve
  • Healthcare Context: Understands how BI is consumed in clinical and administrative settings

Desired Skills:
  • Master's degree in computer science/Engineering or related field
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud-based services
  • Experience writing software for the cloud (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure)
  • Experience in databases, analytics, big data systems or business intelligence products
  • Experience building high-performance, highly available and scalable distributed systems
  • Experience developing software for healthcare related industries
