Job Description

Summary:

This role is responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies for MCG custom switchgear products that meet client specifications. The Senior Mechanical Designer will interface with vendors as needed to ensure the design meets functional and regulatory requirements. The incumbent in this role will exhibit a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, CAD software, and switchgear industry standards. Occasional travel is required for this position. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for switchgear products, such as enclosures, frames, and internal mechanisms. 
  • Ensure designs meet functional, performance, and safety requirements. 
  • Complete jobs for Project Managers and fulfill requests such as submittal drawings, as-builts and record drawings for MCG switchgear products. 
  • Collaborate with vendors and purchasing to ensure accurate representation of components and structures in drawings. 
  • Develop and implement process improvements to ensure quality and efficient documentation. 
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of project bills of materials and individual internally created components for future use. 
  • Serve as a Point-of-Contact concerning mechanical issues between key stakeholders such as Project Managers, Engineers, and vendors. 
  • Collaborate and communicate with project and production management teams regarding schedule and workload to ensure on-time delivery of products. 
  • Supervise, manage, and review drawings before they are sent out for bids or as completed packages to the client. 
  • Ensure accuracy and precision in CAD models. 
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate the structural integrity and performance of mechanical designs. 
  • Train and mentor designers to ensure proper development of drawing packages for Mechanical and Bus design. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications

Required Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the switchgear industry. 
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). 
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including materials science, stress analysis, and manufacturing processes. 
  • Experience with FEA analysis tools. 
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations for switchgear products. 
  • Satisfactory completion of additional background and drug screening.

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the assigned facilities.   
  • Must be able to travel between MCG & client locations as needed, some travel could require overnight stays.
