Senior Risk Manager

As a senior leader in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), you will join a critical second-line-of-defense function responsible for defining the bank's risk management architecture. This role is at the heart of our Change Governance Program, positioned to take a critical role as we modernize our processes to be more nimble and effective while maintaining a robust risk posture.

As a Senior Risk Manager in Capital One's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) department you will apply your project management and analytical skills to our highest profile Risk Management projects. You will lead a team of Risk Specialists responsible for working across the enterprise to develop and implement cutting edge Risk solutions to ensure Capital One's continued stability and success. Senior Risk Managers partner with Executives and their teams to identify potential Risks in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded.

Senior Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent project management and communication skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise and guide users on appropriate usage of our change-based risk assessment program (e.g., LAUNCH), including methodology adherence and best practices and processing administrative actions and user exceptions

  • Solve our stakeholders most complex problems during critical change governance activities

  • Monitor Slack channel and host office hours; respond to user needs

  • Host frequent check-ins with key stakeholders and from each line of business (LOB) to discuss metrics, QA findings, and strategic initiatives

  • Identify bugs and blockers, partnering with methodology owners on fixes and enhancements

  • Provide LOB specific metrics and commentary for various ERM reporting needs (e.g., ROCs)

  • Ensure completion of Post Implementation Reviews for each LOB

  • Maintain documentation of ERM effective challenge and escalation activities

Agentic AI Oversight:

  • Perform effective challenge by reviewing AI-processed initiatives to ensure appropriate risk classification

  • Evaluate AI agent inputs and risk logic for accuracy in identifying risks and mitigations

  • Establish and manage enterprise controls to ensure the AI agent operates strictly within LAUNCH methodology

  • Monitor AI agent effectiveness using quantitative and qualitative metrics, logging inadequacies as observations, and tracking remediation progress

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military experience

  • At least 3 years of risk management experience

  • At least 5 years of project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of risk management experience

  • 6+ years of project management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in risk

  • PMP Certification or Master's Certificate of Project Management (CPM)

  • Ability to set direction, manage expectations and lead cross-functional teams

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $177,700 - $202,800 for Sr. Risk Manager


Richmond, VA: $161,500 - $184,300 for Sr. Risk Manager


Riverwoods, IL: $161,500 - $184,300 for Sr. Risk Manager









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
