Job description

Under general direction, the Sr. Psychiatrist provides psychiatric evaluation, treatment, clinical leadership, and program oversight for Canyon Springs, the Stabilization Training Assistance Re-Integration (STAR) residential services, and the Crisis Assessment Stabilization Team (CAST). Responsible for overall psychiatric service delivery, including supervision of Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners, and oversight of STAR Registered Nurses (RNs) to ensure integrated, high-quality care. Establishes and maintains clinical standards, ensures regulatory compliance with the Department and applicable laws, and promotes trauma-informed, person-centered practices. Provides both in-person and telehealth services and serves as a key clinical leader within interdisciplinary teams. The Sr. Psychiatrist is a mandated reporter of suspected abuse or neglect and must meet and maintain all required certifications and licensure for the position.
This recruitment is being conducted in anticipation of budget approval. Final hiring is contingent upon approval of funding.
Effective July 31, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of 4.62% in exchange for eight hours per month of the Personal Leave Program.

Working Conditions
Frequent interaction with individuals with developmental disabilities and significant psychiatric and behavioral needs in facilities, residential, and community settings. Exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and clinical environments. Requires participation in meetings, travel, and occasional overnight stays.
Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment.

The California Department of Developmental Services (Department) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.
These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
