Classification (FLSA): Full-time, Non-Exempt

Anticipated Work Year & Hours*: 260 Days (12-Month)
Union Membership: Proviso Custodial and Maintenance Union SEIU Local 73, CTW
Reports to: Custodial and Maintenance Building Lead; Director of Buildings and Grounds
Position Summary:
The HVAC Technician helps install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that control temperature and air quality in buildings. This role is hands-on and ideal for someone with basic knowledge in mechanics, problem-solving, and working with tools and equipment.
Main Job Duties:
Assist with the installation and maintenance of air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems.
  • Help inspect and repair fans, motors, pumps, filters, and thermostats.
  • Learn to use tools, gauges, and meters to test and adjust equipment.
  • Support senior technicians with routine maintenance, such as cleaning coils and replacing filters.
  • Help monitor building systems like chillers, boilers, and cooling towers.
  • Follow safety rules and keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Record maintenance activities and report problems to supervisors.
