This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Blue Origin is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join the Lunar Core Components team as Senior Manager of the Deployable Structures and Separation Systems group. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to manage product-focused teams working to develop, build and test hardware that is critical to current and future Lunar missions. The Manager is accountable for leadership of the team, inclusive of requirements, technical performance, schedule, and budget. The Manager will manage the day-to-day efforts as well as career development of a talented group of professionals to deliver for our customers.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include:

  • Define, own, and control the subsystem technical baseline, performing technical work and providing technical leadership of the highest caliber.

  • Define, own, and control the subsystem cost and schedule baseline, driving continuous improvement and refinement of the baseline to meet needs and targets in a dynamic development environment.

  • Manage a team of engineers to specify, design, analyze, manufacture, integrate, test, and deliver hardware and software components that satisfy mission objectives while balancing cost, schedule, and risk.

  • Manage external procurements and internal hardware dependencies required to meet subsystem deliveries.

  • Manage your direct reports' professional development (e.g., performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, routine one-on-one development conversations) and coach them on performance.

  • Drive excellence in programmatic and project operations through data-driven management approach

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading and mentoring technical teams and functional groups, demonstrating strong leadership skills and a commitment to employee development.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in the full lifecycle development of aerospace structures and/or mechanisms

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of: requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operation

  • Resource management experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including managing staffing, budget, and schedule.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing, building and testing pyrotechnically actuated mechanisms

  • Experience designing, building and testing large deployable structures

  • Experience with verification, integration, and test, of integrated subsystems or systems on a spacecraft.

  • Experience with space vehicle mission operations.

  • Experience managing suppliers/subcontracts.

  • Familiarity with agile project management.

  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements. management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in engineering or another technical field.


Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $183,807.00 - $257,328.75 CO applicants is $169,008.00 - $236,611.20 WA applicants is $183,807.00 - $257,328.75

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
