Job description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Pavement Engineer to support and lead pavement design and technical delivery on Alternate Delivery projects, e.g. Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, and Public-Private Partnerships. The ideal candidate may have a proven track record in technical leadership, project management, and experience with any of these agencies: public works, state highway, toll authorities, aviation, and or industrial sectors.


Your job will be to assist in leading the Transtec Group alternate delivery team on pavement design, evaluation, testing, and other related pavement engineering work. You will provide pavement engineering and consulting services for a variety of projects and clients. You will lead a small team of engineers that will specialize in field geotechnical and pavement evaluations, engineering analysis, calculations, recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, and the writing, preparation, and review of reports. This will also include review of project plans and specifications to ensure compliance with pavement design recommendations. 


You will be responsible for preparing proposals and cost estimates, tracking and evaluating project progress, budgets, and recommending changes. The selected candidate must apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience and 5 or more years in pavement design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Knowledge using AASHTOWare Pavement Software.
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable violation history may be required.

    Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's degree in civil engineering preferred (not required)
  • Demonstrated expertise in concrete and asphalt pavement design, forensic evaluation, and innovative rehabilitation systems.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client interaction skills.
  • Knowledge using TxDOT Pavement Engineering Software.
  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines.  Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrating safety practices.  Promote pre-task planning for all projects. 
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.  Participate in pre-task planning.  Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
  • Career level, fully competent engineering professional with responsibility for managing detailed phases of projects with moderate to large size and complexity (up to $2 million).
  • Lead pavement design and evaluation for roadway construction and rehabilitation projects, including design-build and P3 initiatives.
  • Oversee pavement field investigations, field testing (FWD, GPR, coring), and data analysis for pavement condition assessments.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate with clients, contractors, and agencies to deliver high-profile projects.
  • Prepare/supervise proposals and reports for small to large projects of varying complexity. 
  • Evaluate complex laboratory and field data (e.g., FWD/HWD, GPR, coring, DCP, LWD) for analysis, interpretation and inclusion in reports.
  • Serve as a technical adviser to mid-level and junior-level project team members, and perform quality control review of proposals written by others.
  • Interact directly with clients and project teams on developing scope of services, communicating project progress and findings and recommendations.
  • Prepare technical reports, design guidelines, and presentations for clients and industry conferences.
  • Support asset management, life cycle cost analysis, and pavement management system implementation.
  • Serve as Lead Designer or Engineer of Record (EOR) for pavement design projects.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to project sites and meetings.
