About the Role

Fayetteville Public Works Commission is seeking a highly skilled Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support and manage enterprise database environments across onpremise and cloud platforms. This role is responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, availability, and security of Oracle databases that support critical business operations.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, a serviceoriented mindset, and the ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues while partnering with internal teams to deliver reliable system performance.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

  • Administer, maintain, and support Oracle databases across onpremise and DBaaS environments. 
  • Perform database installation, upgrades, patching, backups, and recovery.
  • Monitor database performance and tune systems to ensure optimal operation.
  • Manage data replication, refreshes, and overall configuration management.
  • Create and optimize complex queries, reports, and data extracts.

Performance, Security & Reliability

  • Maintain database integrity, security, and availability standards.
  • Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies using RMAN.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) solutions.
  • Proactively monitor systems and resolve issues in alignment with service level agreements (SLAs). 

Technical Support & Problem Resolution

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues across multiple environments.
  • Manage and escalate Oracle Service Requests (SRs) with Oracle Support as needed.
  • Support production and nonproduction environments, including change management activities.
  • Participate in system upgrades, testing, and technical design discussions.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with IT teams and business stakeholders to gather and document technical requirements.
  • Contribute to performance optimization, system enhancements, and technical projects.
  • Maintain documentation aligned with system lifecycle, standards, and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with users and stakeholders regarding system performance and issue resolution. 

What You'll Bring

  • Strong experience with Oracle database platforms including 11g, 12c, 19c, and 21c, as well as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and DBaaS. 
  • Proficiency with Data Guard, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), CRM/ERP databases, and Linux environments.
  • Expertise in performance tuning, troubleshooting, backup/recovery strategies, and database security.
  • Experience with scripting and data processing (SQL, PL/SQL, Python, Linux shell).
  • Strong understanding of change management and production support processes.
  • Excellent organization, analytical thinking, and problemsolving abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Option A:

  • Bachelor's degree + 7 years database administration experience
    OR Associate degree + 11 years experience
    OR High school diploma + 15 years experience 

  • At least 1 year of lead experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle DBA certification
  • Experience with Oracle licensing and resource management
  • Experience supporting enterpriselevel ERP/CRM systems

  • Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver's License Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including extended computerbased work.
