What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Sr. Director, New Nuclear Development, this incumbent will work within the New Build Nuclear team supporting the portfolio of work including Small Modular Reactor Power Plants, Gigawatt-scale Large Reactor Power Plants and other nuclear new-build projects on the horizon.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Collaborate with Aecon senior management and business development (BD) teams to advance priorities in North America for new build nuclear planning and construction.
  • Identify, develop, and advance leads in the Canada new build nuclear sector, including strategic alliances, partnerships, and customers.
  • Strategize and develop RFQs & RFPs, working closely with US and Canadian BD and Operations teams, leading functional support teams as necessary to win.
  • Deliver and lead presentations and meetings to key stakeholders, ensuring proper communication of evaluations, deliverables, and nuclear construction insights.
  • Coordinate project work groups to ensure unified focus on execution goals and tracking/completion of all actions and deliverables.
  • Lead or participate in regular project meetings with project teams and clients to ensure deliverables and milestones are on target.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee company priorities, project teams and resources, project execution strategies, and related schedules.
  • Validate and monitor project metrics (Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule) for assigned work segments.
  • Oversee, participate, and lead in the development and submission of nuclear construction estimates, schedules, risk registrars, and related planning deliverables.
  • Advance means and methods for construction of proposed projects and technologies, including fabrication, modularization, sequencing, and durations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and solve constructability and planning issues specific to projects.
  • Create, evaluate, and implement ideas that improve designs, or construction planning that enhance constructability and Aecon's competitive advantage.
  • Prepare site setup and layout plans to facilitate optimal construction execution.
  • Create and implement Action/Recovery Plans to address schedule, quality, cost, or project profit performance issues.
  • Identify and report resource constraints impacting planned work.
  • Collaborate with broader team leadership to produce, validate, and maintain a staffing plan and Manpower Loading Forecast (MFL) for assigned scope.
  • Identify required materials and services, addressing any material delivery risks with action plans.
  • Lead cross functional teams comprising representatives from all relevant departments, including Proposals, Estimates, Construction, Engineering, and Project Controls/Planning.
  • Ensure all internal and client business processes are communicated and followed by the appropriate level of supervision.
  • Assign tasks and allocate resources effectively to meet project goals.
  • Track team performance, providing feedback and support to maintain high standards.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities for team members to enhance skills and performance.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the team, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Oversee the quality of work produced by the team, ensuring it meets required standards and specifications.
  • Attend and support project planning meetings, including integration meetings, internal and customer reporting meetings.
  • Provide status and progress reports to customers, project teams, and management.
  • Ensure adherence to all policies, standards, and procedures, including Safety, Quality, Code of Conduct, and Business Ethics
  • Perform additional duties as delegated by the Sr. Director and/or VP of the New Build Nuclear Program.

What You Bring To The Team:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in construction management, engineering, or another relevant field applicable to nuclear construction.
  • Certification in project management professional (PMP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of project management experience, with at least 5 years in an EPC/Service construction environment.
  • Experience in heavy civil, industrial scale fabrication of engineered or structural equipment, mechanical component installation, specialty welding, and / or advanced construction modularization means and methods desired..
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear project work, industry trends and intelligence, financial operations, project control methods/standards, estimating, construction, and Canadian employee relations.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including typical MS suite programs.
  • Excellent budgeting, costing, and scheduling skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience and a sound understanding of key construction related means and methods, possessing unique strength in client facing early constructor involvement and planning.
  • Ability to inspire trust in difficult situations by instilling confidence and engaging people on matters that affect them within the industry.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges specific to projects.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of attention to detail in all work tasks.
  • Demonstrates a sense of ownership, and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in challenging, fast-paced environments.
