Mechanical Engineering Intern

The Otis Service Center in Bloomfield, CT is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Mechanical Engineer Intern. This is a paid position that will require 40 hours per week during the summer and 10-25 hours per week during the fall and spring school semesters. This a is a hybrid position the will require the candidate to be onsite at least 60% of the work hours.
Job responsibilities:
  • Create tools, parts, and technical documents for field repair, installation, and maintenance of Otis and competitor equipment.
  • Communicate & work with various Field office personnel, Supply Management department & external suppliers to gather information, set up field tests & minimize any impact or supply interruption of approved products to our field force.
  • This position has substantial documentation, data analysis and technical writing, work studies, organizational skills, and has a direct impact on process improvements.
  • The intern may have an opportunity to carry out, with guidance from senior staff, the complete product development cycle to design, test, select & implement selected materials & parts/tools for use by our field organization.
  • Research and performance testing for elevator systems development.
  • Jobsite testing and surveying.
  • Implement material & parts tests with focus on data collection & analysis.
  • Setup, maintain, adjust & repair mechanical test rigs & data collection equipment as needed.
  • Perform some mechanical design & strength analysis of elevator parts & service tools.

Education:
  • Candidate must be working towards completion of requirements for an undergraduate degree in any of the engineering fields, manufacturing, or construction and should have an interest in design/development type work.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Superior organizational & technical communication skills.
  • Technical writing skills to create process instructions & present test results.
  • Experience with data collection procedures & test equipment.
  • Advanced Computer skills including a working knowledge of CAD, Microsoft Word & Excel are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in manufacturing industry and working directly with suppliers.
  • 3D Printing experience

Salary range:
The hourly range for this role is $25/hr to $29/hr. We may pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may change in the future. Pay within the salary range will be based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
