Senior Material Analysts and other specialized engineering or technical roles in industries like aerospace, pharmaceuticals, or energy can reach or exceed a $200,000 annual salary with experience, advanced skills, and certifications. High-paying positions often require expertise in data analysis, materials testing, and proficiency with industry-specific tools and software.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

Senior Material Analysts in specialized industries such as aerospace, pharmaceuticals, or manufacturing can reach annual salaries of $300,000 with extensive experience, advanced skills, and often additional certifications. High-level roles in engineering management or executive positions related to materials science may also offer compensation in this range.

What is the difference between Senior Material Analyst vs Material Analyst?

AspectSenior Material AnalystMaterial Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's degree, experience, possibly certifications like ASM or Six SigmaBachelor's degree, entry-level or less experience
Work EnvironmentManufacturing, R&D, quality control in industrial settingsManufacturing, supply chain, quality departments
Employer & Industry UsageManufacturing firms, aerospace, automotive, electronicsSimilar industries, often entry-level roles in manufacturing

The main difference between a Senior Material Analyst and a Material Analyst lies in experience and responsibility. Senior Material Analysts typically have more experience, advanced certifications, and oversee complex material analysis tasks. Material Analysts are often entry-level or less experienced, focusing on routine analysis. Both roles are vital in manufacturing and quality control, but the senior position involves greater oversight and expertise.

What does a Senior Material Analyst do?

A Senior Material Analyst is responsible for managing and analyzing the supply, usage, and inventory of materials required for manufacturing or production processes. They evaluate suppliers, forecast material needs, and ensure that materials are available to meet production schedules while minimizing costs and waste. Additionally, they collaborate with procurement, logistics, and production teams to optimize inventory levels and improve supply chain efficiency. Their expertise helps organizations maintain smooth operations and achieve cost-effectiveness.

What are some common challenges faced by Senior Material Analysts in managing supply chain disruptions?

Senior Material Analysts often encounter challenges such as sudden supplier delays, material shortages, and fluctuating market prices. Addressing these disruptions requires proactive planning, strong relationships with vendors, and the ability to quickly analyze and adapt inventory strategies. Collaboration with procurement, production, and logistics teams is essential to mitigate risks and ensure continuity of operations. Staying current with industry trends and utilizing advanced forecasting tools can also help in anticipating and minimizing potential disruptions.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

Senior Material Analysts typically do not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are usually associated with executive roles, specialized surgeons, or successful entrepreneurs. Job description

About the company
Foundation Alloy is building the most advanced metal alloy company in the world. Our mission is to unlock performance that legacy materials and processes simply cannot deliver, enabling the next generation of critical hardware across space, aerospace, defense, energy, and industrial applications.
Our proprietary MetalsFIRSTโ„ข platform eliminates melting entirely, using mechanical alloying and rapid sintering to produce alloys with ultra-fine grain structures and exceptional properties. We are already deploying initial materials, including our Molyclastโ„ข alloys (MC700, MC1200, and MC-X) and specialty steels.
We are a Boston-area company commercializing deep materials science developed at the intersection of advanced manufacturing and frontier materials science. We move fast, operate with high technical rigor, and are scaling the infrastructure to bring these materials into production.
What you'll be working on:
Foundation Alloy is seeking a Senior Materials Scientist to join our team. You will be working closely with a talented and collaborative group of engineers and materials scientists to invent new alloys and optimize sinter-based manufacturing processes. This is a hands-on position focused on the metallurgy and materials science behind designing, processing, and characterizing next-generation alloys.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, create, and test new, high performance alloys that solve persistent customer materials problems in industrial manufacturing, consumer goods, aerospace, energy, and defense markets.
  • Create and execute experimental plans on time and on budget. Collaborate with product, commercial, and manufacturing teams to achieve development goals.
  • Work hands-on to innovate through the entire alloy development process:
    • Produce lab scale samples
    • Develop robust processes for near net shape consolidation of powder including additive manufacturing.
    • Design sintering recipes and operate furnaces to densify parts.
    • Prepare and characterize samples using standard and novel metallurgical characterization techniques.
  • Analyze experimental data and be able to:
  • Describe results and metallurgical mechanisms across the organization.
  • Turn inventions and discoveries into actionable process improvements or saleable new products.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Passion for imagining what's possible and the energy, drive, leadership, and creativity to make it happen in a fast-paced, evolving start-up environment.
  • Industrial research background with experience:
    • Inventing and developing new products
    • Understanding customer needs and delivering metallurgical solutions
    • Working with commercial and operational teams to move developments from the lab to the customer
  • A belief in the importance of communication and a proven ability to communicate with coworkers from the leadership team to the shop floor.
  • Expertise in one or more of these technical areas: powder metallurgy, sintering, alloy design, computational materials science, and/or relevant metallurgical characterization methods.

Culture
We don't look for profiles that "fit" with our culture. We look for people that add to who we are - people with the initiative, positive approach to problem solving, and passion for something (anything!) that will make them both high impact and exciting to work alongside from day one. We know that these people come from all walks of life, with all backgrounds and levels of experience. If you're excited about the work we can do together, please reach out. We enthusiastically welcome team members of all races, colors, religions, ages, sexes, sexual orientations, gender identities, national origins, different abilities, genetics, veteran statuses, and former incarceration statuses.
Compensation and Benefits
The success of this company will be grounded in the long-term productivity of our team. To provide everyone with the physical, mental and financial safety to operate at their long-term best, we provide the following:
  • Meaningful, challenging, impactful work, and opportunities to grow within the company at all levels
  • Competitive salary, guaranteed to rise with inflation at a minimum each year
  • Equity - People at every level will have an impact, and should benefit from their work
  • Unlimited paid vacation, with a very strong expectation that employees take a minimum of 15 days off per year, and a full week off at least once per year
  • Flexible working style. Most jobs will require people to be present in person or in office most of the time, but in general we care about what's getting done, not when or where you're doing it
  • Top tier health, dental and vision insurance with limited employee contributions
  • A voice in future benefits. This is the beginning, and we will work together to keep adding new, better ways to provide for everyone in the company
