Job description

Job Summary: The Informatics Nurse uses clinical experience to optimize the use and function of electronic medical records and patient care software applications. This position is responsible for the day to-day management of informatics at Avow. The focus of this position is leading the Informatics team to support Avowโ€™s EMR applications.and clinical applications. The Informatics Nurse is expected to become a super user with a clear vision of how data flows through the EMRs and other Avow applications. The Informatics Nurse will work with vendors and staff to test, identify and trouble shoot problems including but not limited to: data integrity, systems speed, user productivity and data integration. A portion of the time spent in this position will be creating reports and integrations with across Avowโ€™s EMR applications and systems. This individual must ensure their work product adheres to applicable regulatory and legal requirements including but not limited to HIPAA. Site visits will be required at times as well as on-site training and collaboration. This position is considered clinical, and the Informatics Nurse may be required to perform patient care visits.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Instruct staff on their responsibility in following the Compliance and Ethics Program.
  • Detect non-compliance and follow up as appropriate
  • Consults with management and Information Technology Department to analyze computer system needs for clinical management information operations to determine scope and priorities of issues.
  • Recommends and develops plans for clinical systems changes for development and operations, identifying and supporting computerization needs related to patient care services.
  • Works with the present software provider on current issues affecting the organization.
  • Serves as the organizations โ€œSuper Userโ€ for all clinical electronic documentation planning, implementation, education and performance monitoring at the clinical level.
  • Provides ongoing education to staff and managers to correct trends and documentation weaknesses.
  • Ensures that electronic documentation meets all applicable standard of internal and external accreditation and review organizations
  • Seeks out new innovative methods and sources to improve clinical competency across all services through collaboration with education, quality, compliance and clinical services.
  • Collaborates in the management, implementation and operation of clinical information and functional systems.
  • Collaborates in the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical management information systems policies and controls to ensure data accuracy, security, and legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides support to clinical end users in the usage and maintenance of clinical software programs
  • Analyzes work processes, tools, and methods to develop and implement the most cost and time effective work process, integrating the clinical software system into clinical operations.
  • Develops clinical software tools, forms, and reports that are customized to meet clinical staff and patient care needs.
  • Develops training materials, schedules and plans with software system personnel, the IT staff and other hospice personnel
  • Responsible for clinical orientation of new employees related to the documentation software.
  • Collaborates with IT on the practical use of the device and software application.
  • Provides ongoing training in clinical software utilization and changes.
  • Implements clinical education related to software by collaborating with the team administrators and directors.
  • Tracks open and past tickets with the software system for trends and opportunities for education and improvement.
  • Confers with technical support personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
  • Coordinates project activities with the Senior Director, Team Administrators and IT technical staff.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives to improve the quality of care, compliance to documentation requirements, and external review preparation.
  • Provides support to managers, schedulers and clinical administrative assistants.
  • Trains staff in identifying and prioritizing problems, implementing solutions, and evaluates effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.ย

Education/Experience: Master's degree in health informatics preferred; Bachelorโ€™s degree in health informatics, nursing or a related field or four to ten years related experience and/or training in hospice/healthcare management and software systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Communication skills of reading, writing, and speaking in English.

Math Skills: Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages/fractions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Hold a current Florida RN license. ANCC RN-BC Informatics nurse certification (or equivalent through AHIMA) preferred. Valid driverโ€™s license.
