Job description

The Field Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing multiple underground utility construction crews performing directional drilling, conduit installation, trenching, fiber optic construction, restoration, and related activities. This position ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Supervise and support multiple field crews and foremen.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials between projects.
  • Monitor daily production and ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Assist in planning work schedules and crew assignments.
  • Ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.

Safety Compliance

  • Enforce OSHA, company, and customer safety policies.
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections and safety audits.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Ensure all employees have proper PPE and safety training.
  • Maintain a culture of safety and accountability.

Project Oversight

  • Review project plans, permits, utility locates, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with customers, inspectors, municipalities, and utility owners.
  • Identify and resolve field issues before they impact production.
  • Verify quality control standards are maintained.
  • Ensure proper restoration and project closeout.

Crew Leadership & Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop foremen and crew members.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations.
  • Address disciplinary issues and attendance concerns.
  • Assist with hiring and onboarding field personnel.
  • Promote teamwork and professionalism.

Utility Damage Prevention

  • Verify current 811 locates are in place before excavation.
  • Ensure potholing and utility verification procedures are followed.
  • Investigate utility damages and implement corrective actions.
  • Promote best practices to reduce damages and claims.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Monitor utilization of company vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure equipment inspections are completed and documented.
  • Minimize downtime and equipment misuse.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Review daily production reports and footage reports.
  • Verify timesheets and payroll information.
  • Submit project updates to management.
  • Assist with claims documentation, incident reports, and customer reports.
  • Track project progress, productivity, and costs.

Customer Relations

  • Maintain professional relationships with customers and management.
  • Attend project meetings as required.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Represent the company in a positive and professional manner.
