Wieland is hiring a Senior Environmental Engineer. The Senior Environmental Engineer will be responsible for leading compliance and sustainability efforts across our East Alton facility.  This role is responsible for ensuring full adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations while driving continuous improvement of our Environmental Management Systems. In addition, this role will champion key sustainability initiatives aligned with Wieland’s strategic priorities, including decarbonization, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and overall environmental stewardship.  Success in this position requires a strong understanding of site operations and the ability to collaborate effectively with managers and stakeholders at all levels of the organization. This role is located in East Alton, IL and will be fully on-site.

Base Salary Range: $140,000 - $150,000/year

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle.

Senior Environmental Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage environmental projects from concept to completion. Must provide advice and assessment of future manufacturing projects to ensure Environmental compliance is maintained and improved.
  • Conducts field investigations and prepares reports for problems, issue and resolutions relative to environmental/pollution control equipment. These include but are not limited to Title V, SERA, SPCC, RCRA and NPDES.
  • Establishes and enforces performance levels and expectations in environmental plans and confirms conformance to environmental plans and specifications.
  • Visits and assesses outside vendors for solid waste disposal, recycling, or reclamation of waste and biproducts.
  • Supports and encourages employee involvement in continuous improvement activities including safety, maintenance, environmental and operations.
  • Manage the operation of the Zone 17 WWTF and obtain an Illinois Class K wastewater operator certification.
  • Must maintain knowledge of environmental and hazardous materials regulations through outside sources.
  • Prepare and submit Permit or regulatory required reports and permit modifications related to sustainability, Title V, SARA, RCRA, and NPDES.
  • Assist in the development of vendor expectations or MSAs related to environmental services.
  • Support the new chemical approval process to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Complete inspections required RCRA, NPDES, and SPCC.
  • Maintain continuous certification for Method 9 Evaluation of Visible Emissions and complete observations as required by Permit or regulation.

Senior Environmental Engineer Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering (or reasonable equivalent) with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in an environmental related field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintaining environmental compliance at a heavy manufacturing facility.
  • Adept at interpreting and implementing local, state, and federal air permitting requirements, including knowledge of air emission calculations and emissions control technologies.
  • Strong mechanical skills related to wastewater treatment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills related to a manufacturing environment.
