Job description

Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer – HVAC Systems
Position Overview
We are seeking a senior-level Electrical & Controls Engineer to lead the development of climate control systems. This role focuses on electrical architecture, embedded controls, motor drive systems, and system integration for rooftop air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, and related thermal management products.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on design capability with strong system-level thinking and a practical understanding of mobile power environments (12V/24V DC and 120V AC systems).

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Lead the electrical and controls architecture for RV HVAC platforms, including rooftop A/C units, heat pumps, and integrated climate systems.
  • Design and validate control systems governing compressors, blower motors, fan motors, reversing valves, sensors, and user interface modules.
  • Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, and system documentation to support production release.
  • Engineer motor drive solutions (AC and DC), including variable-speed control strategies for improved efficiency and noise reduction.
  • Design and troubleshoot control boards and embedded electronics used in mobile HVAC systems.
  • Integrate thermostats, CAN/LIN communication, and user interface controls into complete climate systems.
  • Lead electrical validation and compliance efforts including UL, CSA, FCC, and RV-specific safety requirements.
  • Develop and execute electrical test plans for performance, durability, environmental exposure, and vibration resistance.
  • Support prototype builds and pre-production validation units.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering teams to ensure electrical systems align with thermal performance requirements.
  • Analyze field data, warranty trends, and customer feedback to improve reliability and reduce cost.
  • Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams including manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and suppliers.

Technical Experience We’re Looking For
  • Strong background designing electrical systems for HVAC, refrigeration, or electromechanical products.
  • Experience selecting and controlling compressors, blowers, and fan motors in thermal systems.
  • Proficiency in schematic design and PCB layout tools (Altium or equivalent preferred).
  • Experience troubleshooting and refining PCB designs for production environments.
  • Working knowledge of mobile power systems (shore power, inverter systems, battery systems).
  • Familiarity with refrigerant system control logic and safety interlocks.
  • Experience with LabVIEW or similar platforms for validation testing and data acquisition.
  • Knowledge of UL, CSA, FCC, CE or similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with structured NPI processes, FMEA, and revision control systems.

Professional Strengths
  • Ability to independently lead system-level electrical development.
  • Strong analytical and root cause problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in lab and production settings.
  • Effective communicator capable of guiding both technical teams and external partners.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical initiatives preferred.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical/controls engineering, ideally within HVAC, refrigeration, or mobile systems.
  • Experience in RV, marine, or mobile climate systems is highly desirable.

Work Environment
  • Mix of engineering office, lab testing, and manufacturing floor support.
  • Exposure to temperature and environmental testing environments.
  • Limited travel expected (approximately 5–8 trips annually).

About Razorjack Recruiting

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

We have purposely remained exclusive to a small group of companies and the industries that they serve. We have almost no limitation as to the organizations from which we can recruit – a very exciting prospect. We have a large number of contacts in multiple industries and disciplines and we are uniquely positioned to have individuals pre-identified for strategic positions. This creates enormous advantages. Speed of search is the critical component. We’ve spent a great deal of time studying our search process and re-engineered every aspect of every stage. Time is critical and we optimize each step. We are now completing searches within 2 to 3 weeks consistently, where it used to take 4 to 8. The process requires joint commitment and collaboration to work within this timeframe and there can be unforeseen obstacles that cause delay. It is an aggressive approach that, even if delayed, reduces the search time by weeks. Our search assignments cover the full spectrum of leadership positions and major disciplines.
