What is a senior digital designer?

Senior Digital Designers are experienced professionals who create and oversee digital visual content for websites, apps, advertising, and other digital platforms. They are responsible for conceptualizing design solutions, developing user interfaces, and ensuring visual consistency across digital products. In addition to design work, they often mentor junior designers, collaborate with developers and marketing teams, and lead design projects from concept to completion. Their expertise helps organizations deliver engaging and effective digital experiences.

How does a senior digital designer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Senior Digital Designers regularly work alongside UX/UI designers, developers, product managers, and marketing teams to ensure cohesive project outcomes. They participate in brainstorming sessions, provide creative direction, and communicate design concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Close collaboration helps them align visual elements with user needs and business goals, while also incorporating feedback efficiently throughout the design and development process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior digital designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Digital Designer, you need expertise in visual design principles, UX/UI best practices, and a strong portfolio demonstrating advanced digital design work—usually supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Mastery of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and prototyping software is typically required, along with knowledge of responsive and interactive design systems. Outstanding collaboration, creative problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you work with cross-functional teams and articulate design concepts. These skills ensure the delivery of innovative, user-centered digital experiences that meet business goals and drive user engagement.

Working from our lab adjacent to manufacturing you will collaborate across multifunctional teams to diagnose problems to component level, determine solutions via experimentation and simulation and implement corrective actions.  As an extension of design engineering, you will have the opportunity to learn and grow while providing electrical engineering support to technicians and junior engineers.  As new products are launched you will interface across engineering, assisting with root cause analysis, troubleshooting of prototypes and ensuring a successful launch into full-rate production.

Typical tasks include:

  • Working as part of a cross-functional team to meet manufacturability, testability and other DFx requirements for volume production.
  • Working with other engineering teams to make necessary circuit changes prior to and during the launch of new products.
  • Working to mitigate component obsolescence throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff by providing assistance as they investigate problems.
  • Lead investigations, coordinate tasks, and direct junior staff as required.
  • Work with Quality and Supply Chain to address material discrepancies.
  • Troubleshooting unit, modules, and boards to the component level.
  • Support digital and related analog hardware designs.
  • Perform detailed analysis of analog, digital and/or RF circuitry.

Essential Functions:

  • Hardware troubleshooting ability to component level for analog and digital circuits.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Ability to design and conduct engineering experiments and act upon test results.
  • Design and analysis of circuits and components utilizing various simulation tools.
  • Experienced in leading small technical design or troubleshooting team, providing direction and prioritizing tasks to meet target yields and shipments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment interfacing with multiple teams across the organization.
  • Ability to use typical lab equipment: Oscilloscope, DMM, Spectrum & Network analyzers, logic analyzers and signal generators.
  • A driven person that wants to learn and is a proven problem solver.
  • Able to analyze designs and communicate technical information to support staff.
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's EE Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience in Electrical Engineering.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with tactical radios is a plus.
  • Experience reading schematics and datasheets, probing circuits and understanding proper circuit operation.
  • Troubleshoot circuit assemblies to component level
  • Ability to select alternate electronic components and know what testing is required to qualify them.
  • Working knowledge of LabVIEW and Jira a plus.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
