Job description

General Description JOIN OUR TEAM AS A CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR. The Control Room Operator role is located at the Land O' Lakes Detention Center. This civilian position is responsible for maintaining constant vigilance of activities both inside and outside of the detention center by visual observation and monitoring of camera systems.

Must control all entries and exits to and from the facility. Monitor fire panels, maintain key control, provide visual security, protection and safety of personnel, inmates, equipment and buildings. This position reports to the Corrections Sergeant.

Essential Job Functions Maintains constant vigilance of activities; operates security gates and control room security doors; maintains accountability of security equipment; monitor cameras, radios, emergency panels, inmate recreation and inmate visitation; makes emergency notifications and computer entries. Answers telephones, writing report and maintaining work area. Uses a variety of equipment and/or machines to include: telephone, radio, computer, software programs, and photocopier.

Plans, organizes, and brings assignments to completion. Uses a radio for communication, must be able to listen and comprehend radio traffic. Works under moderate guidance and supervision of a Corrections Sergeant.

Relating well to the public and inmate population. Ability to work under emotional/physical stress. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff members and the general public. Ability to operate a personal computer, peripheral equipment and assigned software. Ability to plan, organize and bring assignments to completion.

Ability to apply proper grammatical skills in correspondence. Minimum Requirements PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting and occasionally bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling and twisting.

Ability to hear conversation at a normal level (assisted/unassisted), vision correctable to 20/40 in each eye. Ability to work shift work. Must be able to perform the physical standards required for the job.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. CJIS Security Awareness Certification will be required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE will be required.
