Job description

EnergyUnited is seeking a Control Room Operator I or II to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric distribution system. Working from our centralized control room, this position monitors system performance through SCADA, OMS, ADMS, and other utility technologies; coordinates outage restoration efforts; dispatches field personnel; and provides critical support during normal operations and emergency events.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining system reliability by monitoring alarms, responding to outages, coordinating field resources, and communicating effectively with internal teams and external agencies.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Dispatch crews to respond to outages, emergencies, hazardous conditions, and service-related requests.
  • Monitor and utilize Outage Management System (OMS), SCADA, ADMS, and related utility systems.
  • Track outage restoration activities and provide support to field personnel.
  • Monitor distribution system performance and assist with restoration efforts during outages and emergency events.
  • Create and manage service orders for hazards and field repairs.
  • Provide field personnel with information including meter data, voltage history, fault current information, device status, and system conditions.
  • Monitor weather conditions and communicate system concerns as necessary.
  • Maintain operational logs, outage records, switching documentation, and abnormal condition reports.
  • Coordinate communications with field personnel through radio, telephone, and dispatch software.
  • Monitor Statesville campus gate access and respond to after-hours access requests.
  • Report unusual system conditions according to established procedures.
  • Support departmental objectives and perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Requirements
Qualifications
Control Room Operator I
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of dispatch practices and customer service principles.
  • Basic understanding of electric utility operations, electrical theory, and distribution systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, OMS, GIS, or related utility technologies preferred.
  • Valid NC Driver's license with good driving record

Control Room Operator II
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) or more years of utility control room, dispatch, or related operational experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electric distribution systems and utility operations.
  • Experience utilizing SCADA, ADMS, OMS, AMI, GIS, and related utility applications.
  • Ability to assist with system troubleshooting, outage restoration, switching coordination, and advanced operational functions.
  • Valid NC Driver's license with good driving record

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergency situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Working Conditions
This position supports a 24/7 operation and works a rotating overnight schedule consisting of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. shifts, including weekends and holidays. Due to the nature of electric utility operations, employees must be available to work extended and irregular hours during power outages, severe weather events, and other emergency situations. Operators may be required to remain on duty beyond their scheduled shift to support system reliability and restoration efforts.
Residency Requirement
This position is classified as a Direct Operational Position. Employees must establish residency within a 25-mile radius of the assigned office location.
