Job description

COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST SENIOR

University of Alabama at Birmingham 

The Senior Communications Specialist develops and executes communication projects with minimal supervision. Building on strong writing and digital expertise, this role proactively identifies opportunities to advance the unit's reputation through storytelling and multi-channel touchpoints. The Senior Communications Specialist manages complex assignments and ensures content strategies align with both unit and institutional priorities.

Key Duties& Responsibilities

  • Identifies, researches and supports proactive unit-wide communications initiatives by gathering information, preparing materials, and coordinating distribution using university-approved platforms and tools.

  • Drafts, edits, and produces content for channels that may include web, email, social media, video, newsletters, and print publications.

  • Tracks and reports on engagement metrics to evaluate communications effectiveness, and analyzes performance data for continuous improvement.

  • Manages complex communication projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, on brand, and with measurable results.

  • Collaborates across teams to ensure communications align with unit goals and institutional brand standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Roles, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises student workers and/or interns as needed.

  • Manages CAS websites and content management systems including Joomla, Wordpress, and Drupal

Preferred

Experience with Drupal strongly preferred

Salary Range: $52,555 - $85,400

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field, and two (2) years of related experience required.

  • Demonstrated experience in marketing and/or communications, including, but not limited to social media, video, web, writing, editing and content creation preferred.

  • Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
