Job description

SR. CIVIL ENGINEER, LAND DEVELOPMENT (STARLINK)SpaceX is leveraging its experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system and largest satellite constellation. We provide fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide, including populations with little or no connectivity, rural communities, aircraft, watercraft, and places where existing services are too expensive or unreliable. We've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential global impact.
As a Sr. Civil Engineer on the construction projects team, you will work with a group of elite engineers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate infrastructure for a variety of projects at the Starlink production facility. This is a hands-on role that is responsible for the planning and execution of new facility construction and renovation projects with emphasis on heavy civil and utility components. You will work with construction project managers, facility engineers, designers, vendors, and internal partners/customers to support these goals. You will have the opportunity to drive positive change and own projects from start to finish, with the goal of making the SpaceX campus a world-class manufacturing facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for industrial, manufacturing, and commercial-type land development projects
  • Perform all calculations necessary for grading and drainage, stormwater control facilities, water quality, domestic water distribution, and other underground utilities
  • Drive coordination and design necessary to obtain local, state, and federal permits as it relates to land development and utility construction projects
  • Manage the civil aspects of construction projects in the field: Including quality control, conflict resolution, and coordination of a multi-discipline contractor team
  • Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and internal clients to develop project requirements, schedules, and cost estimates prior to project implementation
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in real-time

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • 5+ years of professional experience in civil engineering design, analysis, and drafting

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 8+ years of professional experience in civil engineering design, analysis, and drafting
  • EIT or Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Previous experience with civil design software packages like StormCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, WaterCAD, PCSWMM
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D (grading to create a Civil 3D surface file, earthwork volume takeoffs, plan and profile creation, base model setup among other items)
  • Knowledge of processes of governing permitting and/or environmental agencies
  • Understanding of other disciplines such as electrical, piping, geotechnical, electrical, and surveying
  • Experience with project management of major construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management
  • Experience reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work at elevated heights, in indoor and outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain, snow)
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs. unassisted)
  • Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs
  • Ability to provide on-call support in emergencies
  • Occasional travel may be required based on specific project tasks
  • Ability to work onsite at our Bastrop, TX facility (Remote work not considered)
  • Valid driver's license
