Job description

Job Description Job Description Description: Circuit of The Americas (COTA) is a 1,500-acre motorsports and entertainment campus located in Del Valle, Texas — home to the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix, MotoGP, NASCAR, the Germania Insurance Amphitheater, and a full calendar of concerts, corporate events, and private experiences. COTALAND, the newest addition to the campus, is Austin's premier motorsports-themed theme park featuring 28+ rides and attractions, premium dining, Speed City karting, and the iconic Hot Lap experience on the F1 circuit itself. Job Description: The Senior A/V Engineer is a technical authority for all audio-visual systems across the COTA and COTALAND campus.

This role spans permanent AV infrastructure (boardrooms, press facilities, broadcast suites, control rooms, digital signage), live-event production support (F1, MotoGP, NASCAR, concerts, corporate events), and the guest-experience AV environment throughout COTALAND. The successful candidate will design, implement, operate, and maintain complex AV systems in a demanding, fast-paced venue environment while serving as a technical resource and escalation point for AV-related issues across the campus. Requirements: System Design & Implementation: Design, specify, and oversee installation of AV systems across COTA and COTALAND, including control rooms, press conference facilities, hospitality suites, conference rooms, and theme park guest-experience environments.

Develop detailed system drawings, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, and equipment specifications for new installations and upgrades. Lead AV infrastructure projects from design through commissioning, working with contractors, integrators, and internal IT/facilities teams. Evaluate, recommend, and procure AV equipment and systems in alignment with COTA's technology standards and budget parameters.

Operations & Event Support: Provide hands-on technical support for major live events including F1 United States Grand Prix, MotoGP, NASCAR, Germania Amphitheater concerts, and COTALAND daily park operations. Operate and support production AV systems including mixing consoles, video switchers, broadcast monitors, intercoms, projection systems, and LED display infrastructure. Serve as primary AV escalation point during event-day operations; troubleshoot and resolve issues rapidly in high-pressure, live-production environments.

Coordinate with production companies, broadcast partners, and third-party event AV vendors operating on the COTA campus. Support digital signage networks across COTALAND, including content scheduling, player management, and display infrastructure. Maintenance & Administration: Develop and maintain comprehensive AV system documentation, including as-built drawings, equipment inventories, and maintenance logs.

Create and execute preventive maintenance schedules for all permanent AV systems across the campus. Manage AV equipment lifecycle — tracking assets, planning refresh cycles, and coordinating warranty and repair activities. Maintain AV systems in compliance with COTA's cybersecurity standards, including SentinelOne EDR enrollment for networked AV control systems where applicable.

Support IT leadership in vendor management, contract review, and budget planning for AV-related expenditures. Collaboration & Leadership: Serve as technical advisor to IT leadership, event operations, marketing, and executive teams on AV technology capabilities and strategic direction. Mentor junior AV technicians and cross-train IT staff on AV fundamentals.

Collaborate with the IT team on network infrastructure requirements for AV-over-IP, Dante audio networking, and control system connectivity. Partner with event production teams during pre-event planning to ensure AV technical riders and requirements are understood and fulfilled. Required Qualifications: 10+ years of professional AV engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior or lead role.

Demonstrated experience supporting live events at a comparable venue scale — sports facilities, concert venues, theme parks, arenas, or broadcast environments. Expert-level proficiency with Crestron or AMX control systems (programming and commissioning). Strong working knowledge of Dante and/or AES67 networked audio protocols.

Hands-on experience with professional audio consoles (Yamaha, Shure, QSC, or equivalent), video routing and switching (Extron, Kramer, or equivalent), and professional display/projection systems. Solid understanding of AV-over-IP and networked AV infrastructure, including VLAN configuration, multicast, and QoS requirements — and ability to work collaboratively with network engineers. Proficiency reading and producing AV system drawings, signal flow diagrams, and rack elevation documentation.

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and major event days (F1, NASCAR, concerts) — this is a venue-based role and event hours are a core requirement, not an exception. Preferred Experience: CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design) or CTS-I (Installation) credential from AVIXA. Experience with Biamp, BSS, or QSC audio DSP platforms.

Familiarity with broadcast and IPTV distribution systems. Experience with digital signage platforms (BrightSign, Signagelive, or equivalent). Working knowledge of structured cabling standards (Cat6A, fiber) as they relate to AV infrastructure.

Experience working within an IT department or MSP environment, particularly in a Windows-primary shop. Motorsports, theme park, or large-venue IT/AV experience — COTA's environment is genuinely unique and prior comparable experience is a meaningful differentiator. Salary commensurate with experience.

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job. EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: COTA strongly supports equal employment opportunity for all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, age, marital status, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by state or federal law.
