What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Attorney, you need deep legal expertise, strong analytical skills, and typically a Juris Doctor (JD) degree with a valid state bar license. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis, case management software, and continued legal education certifications are often required. Excellent negotiation, leadership, and communication skills help you manage complex cases and mentor junior staff. These capabilities are crucial for delivering sound legal advice, achieving favorable outcomes, and supporting organizational goals in high-stakes environments.

How does a senior attorney typically collaborate with junior legal staff and other departments within a firm?

Senior Attorneys often play a pivotal role in mentoring junior legal staff, providing guidance on case strategy, and reviewing work to ensure quality and compliance. They also collaborate closely with other departments such as compliance, risk management, and business development to align legal advice with the organization's broader goals. This cross-functional collaboration helps ensure that legal solutions are practical, risk-aware, and support the firm's overall objectives.

What is a senior attorney?

Senior Attorneys are experienced legal professionals who provide expert legal advice, represent clients in complex legal matters, and often supervise junior attorneys or legal teams. They typically specialize in one or more areas of law and are responsible for managing significant cases, drafting legal documents, and developing legal strategies. Senior Attorneys may also play a key role in mentoring less-experienced lawyers and ensuring the legal team's work meets high professional standards.

Job description

Litigation / Trial Attorney Uncapped Bonuses
The Law Offices of Joumana Kayrouz • On-site / Hybrid • Full-Time • Plaintiff Auto Negligence
Base $105,000-$150,000, Higher for Senior Attorneys • Uncapped quarterly & annual bonuses • Earning potential up to seven figures
Try cases, not business development. At the Law Offices of Joumana Kayrouz, we handle the marketing, intake, and client acquisition so you can focus entirely on litigation and trial work. You step into a steady flow of plaintiff-side auto negligence matters, backed by experienced paralegals, strong operational systems, and leadership support - with compensation tied directly to your results, not office politics.
For more than 20 years, the firm has maintained a respected, highly visible platform in Michigan personal injury law. We are looking for a Michigan auto litigator who wants serious case flow, real ownership of meaningful litigation, and uncapped earning potential.
What You'll Handle
  • Manage plaintiff-side auto negligence matters from filing through resolution
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery, and take and defend depositions
  • Represent clients at case evaluations, facilitations, mediations, settlement conferences, and hearings
  • Evaluate liability, damages, medical records, case value, and settlement strategy
  • Prepare and try cases to verdict where the facts warrant
  • Move cases forward decisively, partnering with paralegals, experts, and firm leadership

Requirements
What We're Looking For
You're a Michigan auto litigator who brings:
  • Juris Doctor and active membership in good standing with the Michigan Bar
  • 2+ years of Michigan auto litigation experience (required)
  • Trial experience strongly preferred - and rewarded appropriately
  • Plaintiff-side personal injury litigation background
  • Command of pleadings, discovery, depositions, case evaluation, facilitation, and settlement
  • Sound judgment on liability, damages, and case strategy, with a disciplined, results-oriented approach

Benefits
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary, 2-3 years' litigation experience: $105,000-$125,000, commensurate with experience
  • Base salary, 4-5 years' strong Michigan auto litigation experience: $125,000-$150,000, commensurate with experience
  • Senior attorneys, 6+ years' Michigan auto litigation experience: top-of-market base, commensurate with your track record
  • Uncapped quarterly and annual performance bonuses driven entirely by your performance, with earning potential up to seven figures
  • Signing bonus available for highly qualified candidates
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance; life insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Hybrid schedule option may be available once fully established with the firm
