Job description

Be the bridge between our customers and our shop floor. Every job starts with you.

Union City, CA ยท $85,000 โ€“ $105,000/year ยท 3+ years

Reports to: Director of Sales / VP of Engineering

About This Role

You are the first point of contact for new business. Review customer drawings, assess manufacturability, develop accurate quotes, and work with the shop floor to launch new programs. You'll translate complex engineering requirements into clear production plans โ€” balancing cost, quality, and lead time to win work and keep customers coming back.

This is a hybrid technical-commercial role. You need to understand machining (materials, tolerances, fixturing) and be comfortable in customer-facing conversations. We're a startup โ€” you won't just process RFQs, you'll help shape our quoting systems, build customer relationships, and directly influence which work we take on.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review customer RFQs, drawings, and 3D models for manufacturability
  • Develop detailed CNC machining quotes with accurate cost breakdowns
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews with customers
  • Collaborate with CNC programmers and machinists on production feasibility
  • Manage new program launches from quote to first article
  • Build and maintain customer relationships through technical support
  • Track quote win rates and identify process improvements
  • Support sales team with technical presentations and facility tours
  • Document quoting assumptions, process plans, and special requirements
  • Interface with quality team on inspection requirements and certifications
Requirements
  • 3+ years in applications engineering, manufacturing engineering, or technical sales
  • Strong understanding of CNC milling and turning processes
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings with GD&T
  • Experience quoting CNC machined parts (job shop or contract manufacturing)
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials: aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, Inconel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple active quotes
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Mastercam or equivalent CAM software knowledge
  • CNC machining hands-on experience (even limited)
  • Customer relationship management (CRM) experience
  • Experience in aerospace or defense contract manufacturing
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Performance bonuses tied to quote win rate and revenue
  • Professional development including certifications and conferences
  • Modern office with direct access to the shop floor
  • Startup culture with real ownership and growth opportunities
