Job Description

The purpose of this job is to serve as a senior technical contributor within the Energy Technology space, designing, developing, supporting, and enhancing commodity trading and risk management platforms as well as retail pricing applications operating in both on-premise and cloud implementations. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, technology leaders, vendors, and team members to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure technology solutions that support commercial trading operations.

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support complex enhancements for commercial trading, risk management, credit, and retail pricing applications.
  • Serve as a senior technical lead and contributor on complex projects and workstreams, providing technical analysis and guidance, design recommendations, and implementation support.
  • Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications, system designs, integrations, and development tasks.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, scrum masters, functional analysts, infrastructure, security, and other technology teams to define priorities, clarify requirements, and deliver reliable solutions.
  • Perform production support activities, including troubleshooting complex production incidents, performing root cause analysis, developing and implementing long-term corrective actions, orchestrating deployments, and occasional after-hours support as needed.
  • Advise and implement modernization efforts, including cloud adoption, automation, DevOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, and platform reliability improvements.
  • Help define and improve development standards, reusable patterns, documentation, automated testing, peer reviews, and secure coding practices.
  • Support vendor-delivered solutions by performing technical design reviews, validating deliverables, aiding implementation, and providing long-term production support.
  • Model behaviors that support the company's common purpose and ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level.
  • Provide project updates to development manager and perform project management responsibilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify project, operational, and technical risks and determine appropriate mitigation plans.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related scientific or technical discipline required; or demonstrated technical proficiency may be substituted for education requirements.
  • 5+ years of experience developing, supporting, or integrating enterprise applications.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting commodity/energy trading, retail pricing, or related commercial applications.
  • 2+ years of experience leading or managing technical projects, delivery priorities, or production support activities.
  • Advanced ability to analyze business processes and translate business needs into technical requirements, designs, and system changes.
  • Strong understanding of incident management, change management, release management, service requests, and production support practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more development technologies such as .NET/C#, Java, AngularJS/Angular, SQL, APIs, or integration frameworks required.
  • Advanced proficiency with relational databases required; Microsoft SQL Server preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with AWS, Terraform, Jenkins, DB Maestro, ActiveBatch, or similar cloud, source control systems, DevOps, release management, and automation tools required.
  • Advanced proficiency with Agile/Scrum delivery practices required.
  • Advanced understanding of commodities trading, front/middle/back-office processes, and experience supporting business environments requiring rapid context switching and demanding timelines required.
  • Advanced proficiency in building, enhancing, integrating, and supporting CTRM/ETRM systems such as RightAngle, Endur, Allegro, or similar platforms required.
  • Strong ability to assess system impact across small- and large-scale changes required.
  • Strong ability to balance project delivery, production support, technical debt, and operational priorities required.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong ownership mindset with commitment to secure, reliable, maintainable, and well-documented solutions.
  • Ability to independently drive complex technical work to completion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, multitask, meet deadlines, and resolve problems with a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to mentor junior developers, provide technical guidance, and collaborate effectively with outsourced vendors.
