Job description

Anatomic Pathology Operations ManagerRole Summary

Drive operational excellence and clinical precision as the Anatomic Pathology Operations Manager within a premier, forward-thinking laboratory environment. In this high-impact leadership role, you will strategically coordinate, oversee, and review all activities across the Histology, Cytology, and MOHS laboratories. Serving as a crucial bridge between laboratory staff and executive leadership, you will directly supervise the Pathology Office Manager, Pathology Supervisor, and Chief Cytotechnologist. Your expertise will ensure maximum testing quality, optimal turnaround times, and total compliance with all strict regulatory and accreditation standards, all while fostering a collaborative, team-oriented culture hospital-wide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory Operations Oversight: Direct, supervise, and review tests performed by scientists, cytotechnologists, histotechnicians, and laboratory assistants across Histology, Cytology, and MOHS specialties.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Keep abreast of all accrediting agency standards to maintain total survey readiness; document test implementations, staff training, and competency validations to ensure a safe, compliant environment.

  • Quality Control Leadership: Oversee the Laboratory Quality Control Program and compile comprehensive monthly QC reports to optimize assay turnaround times and present findings at section meetings.

  • Financial & Administrative Management: Develop and submit departmental goals, operational objectives, and annual capital equipment budgets to the Senior Director and Medical Director; manage section payroll, time sheets, and vendor relationships.

  • Talent Development & Leadership: Interview, hire, train, coach, and counsel laboratory personnel; serve as a mentor and positive change agent to promote professional image and customer service standards.

  • Technical Integration: Actively assist in developing and maximizing laboratory information systems (LIS), including instrument interfacing, custom worksheets, and diagnostic report formatting.

  • Clinical Continuity: Maintain the capability to step in and perform the operational duties of Sectional Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors as required by workflow demands.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or a closely related biological science.

  • Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of relevant acute care hospital laboratory experience.

  • Licensure: Current New York State (NYS) License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, or Pathologists’ Assistant required.

  • Core Skills: Demonstrated core knowledge of laboratory management skills, budget planning, and complex workflow scheduling.

Desired Qualifications
  • Specialty Certification: ASCP Certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) is highly preferred.

  • Systems Proficiency: Strong experience navigating enterprise laboratory computer software, instrument interfaces, and digital pathology tracking systems.

  • Leadership History: Proven background supervising multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex quality assurance initiatives.

  • Salary Range: $111,376.98 – $167,066.06 (Based on experience).
