Job description

Description

Job Title: Senior Accountant, Real Estate   Accounting

Department: Real Estate Accounting

Location: Carmel, IN; Hybrid
Reports To: Sr Director, Accounting

Raising the Standard

Some roles are about processing transactions. This one is about ensuring financial operations run with consistency, accuracy, and accountability.

At Trinitas, we look for professionals who naturally take ownership, solve problems before they become issues, and raise the standard for operational excellence. If you enjoy improving processes, partnering across teams, and being the trusted resource others rely on, you'll find meaningful work here.

Why This Role Matters

The Senior Accountant serves as the operational lead within the Accounting department, partnering closely with the Senior Director of Accounting to oversee outsourced accounting operations, Accounts Payable, and construction draw accounting.

This role helps ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and reliable while supporting the continued growth of the organization. Success means month-end closes run smoothly, accounting operations remain well-controlled, and business partners can confidently rely on accurate financial information to make decisions.

You won't simply complete accounting tasks; you'll help maintain the financial discipline that supports the entire organization.

What It Means to Work the Trinitas Way

Our values guide how we operate every day.

Develop with Purpose & Passion

In this role, you will:

Continuously improve accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls.

Lead initiatives that increase efficiency, scalability, and operational consistency.

Act with Extreme Ownership

In this role, you will:

Ensure outsourced accounting partners and Accounts Payable operations consistently deliver accurate and timely results.

Monitor priorities, identify risks early, and proactively resolve operational challenges.

Do the Right Thing

In this role, you will:

Maintain strong financial controls while ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Build trusted relationships through clear communication, transparency, and accountability.

Core Responsibilities

The following represent the essential functions of the role and must be able to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations by overseeing outsourced accounting partners and ensuring accurate, timely completion of accounting activities.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes through journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, account analysis, and review of accounting transactions.
  • Assist in oversight of the Accounts Payable function, ensuring invoices, approvals, accruals, and payment processes are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Coordinate construction draw accounting by reviewing contracts, payment applications, change orders, budget transfers, lien waivers, and supporting documentation while partnering with lenders, Development, Construction, and Finance teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve accounting procedures, documentation, internal controls, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and operational efficiencies that strengthen departmental performance.
  • Monitor accounting workflows, quality, and departmental priorities while providing guidance to outsourced accounting partners and supporting cross-functional initiatives.
  • Assist with audits, special projects, system implementations, onboarding, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Serve as the Senior Director of Accounting's delegate for designated operational matters during periods of absence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What Success Looks Like

After 6-12 months in this role:

  • Month-end close processes consistently meet deadlines with minimal corrections.
  • Outsourced accounting operations and Accounts Payable workflows operate efficiently with strong quality controls.
  • Construction draws are submitted accurately and on time with complete supporting documentation.
  • Accounting processes become more standardized, documented, and scalable through continuous improvement efforts.
  • Business partners view Accounting as a responsive, knowledgeable, and trusted resource.

Success here is measured not only by accurate financial reporting, but by the trust you build across the organization.

What Will Help You Thrive

Successful candidates typically bring:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate, construction, development, or property accounting.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of GAAP; experience with Sage 300 CRE, AvidXchange (or similar Accounts Payable workflow software), Microsoft Excel, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Professional Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Just as important, you:

  • Take pride in accountability and ownership.
  • Value accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Look for opportunities to improve processes rather than simply maintain them.
  • Build productive relationships across departments and with external partners.
  • Remain calm, adaptable, and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading accounting workflows or reviewing the work of others.
  • Experience with construction accounting, job cost accounting, or construction draw administration.
  • CPA or CMA certification, or active progress toward certification.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is performed primarily in a hybrid office environment. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, routine use of computers and standard office equipment, and the ability to view a computer screen for extended periods. Occasional lifting of office materials up to 20 pounds may be required.

What We Offer

We believe high standards should be matched with meaningful support.

Trinitas offers a competitive benefits package designed to support both professional performance and personal well-being, including:

  • Appreciate a balanced life with our generous time-off policy, including paid time off (PTO), volunteer days, and holidays.
