What is the difference between Semiconductor vs Electronics Technician?
| Aspect | Semiconductor | Electronics Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically an associate degree or technical certification in semiconductor manufacturing or engineering | Associate degree or diploma in electronics or related field |
| Work Environment | Cleanroom facilities, manufacturing plants, R&D labs | Electronics repair shops, manufacturing floors, technical support environments |
| Industry Usage | Semiconductor manufacturing, chip design, fabrication | Electronics repair, testing, installation, and maintenance |
Semiconductors focus on the design, fabrication, and testing of semiconductor devices and chips, often within specialized cleanroom environments. Electronics Technicians work on maintaining, repairing, and testing electronic systems and devices across various industries. While both roles require technical skills and certifications, semiconductors are more specialized in chip manufacturing, whereas electronics technicians have broader applications in electronic device support and maintenance.

Job description
World Wide Professional Solutions is seeking experienced Commissioning Specialists to support a large scale semiconductor project in Peoria, Arizona.
We are hiring specialists across multiple disciplines, including:
- Instrumentation and Controls, I&C
- Life Safety Systems, LSS
- Mechanical Systems
- HVAC Systems
- Process Systems
- Electrical Systems
These positions will support commissioning, startup, turnover, and system readiness activities for complex semiconductor facility systems. The successful candidates will have demonstrated experience supporting commissioning execution on large industrial, advanced manufacturing, mission critical, cleanroom, or semiconductor construction projects.
These positions will report to the QA/QC Site Manager and work closely with construction, commissioning, project controls, engineering, quality, facilities, and trade contractor teams.
The Commissioning Specialist will be responsible for supporting and executing commissioning activities for assigned systems from construction completion through system turnover. This includes reviewing documentation, coordinating field readiness, supporting functional testing, tracking deficiencies, confirming completion of prerequisites, and driving system handoff to the facilities or operations team.
The successful individual will be part of a project team responsible for delivering new facility systems that meet construction, commissioning, startup, quality, safety, and turnover milestones critical to the success of the project.
Disciplines Needed:
Instrumentation and Controls, I&C
Commissioning support for instrumentation, controls, PLCs, control panels, sensors, transmitters, field devices, alarms, interlocks, controls integration, loop checks, point to point verification, sequence testing, and controls documentation.
Life Safety Systems, LSS
Commissioning support for fire alarm, gas detection, toxic gas monitoring, emergency power interfaces, evacuation systems, fire protection interfaces, alarm response functions, code required testing, and life safety system turnover.
Mechanical
Commissioning support for mechanical systems including pumps, piping systems, utility systems, rotating equipment, valves, pressure testing support, flushing, cleaning, equipment readiness, and mechanical system turnover.
HVAC
Commissioning support for air handling units, makeup air units, exhaust systems, ductwork, cleanroom HVAC, filtration, pressurization, temperature and humidity controls, balancing coordination, functional testing, and HVAC system turnover.
Process
Commissioning support for process utility systems including specialty gases, bulk gases, chemical distribution, process piping, UPW, wastewater, exhaust, scrubbers, and other semiconductor facility process systems.
Electrical
Commissioning support for electrical distribution, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, panels, emergency power, grounding, lighting controls, electrical testing coordination, energization readiness, and electrical system turnover.
Responsibilities
- Chairs or participates in commissioning meetings and provides updates to project leadership on commissioning progress, schedule status, risks, blockers, and system readiness.
- Coordinates with construction teams, project management, trade contractors, QA/QC, engineering, and facilities stakeholders to align commissioning activities with project milestones.
- Reviews construction schedules and commissioning schedules to confirm prerequisites are met for system startup, testing, green tagging, blue tagging, energization, and turnover.
- Verifies that contractors meet commissioning and quality program deliverables, including inspection records, test documentation, punch list closure, equipment data, startup documentation, and turnover packages.
- Supports field walkdowns to confirm system completion, installation quality, access, labeling, cleanliness, safety readiness, and testing readiness.
- Reviews commissioning documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and commissioning best practices.
- Tracks open items, deficiencies, punch list items, testing issues, and turnover blockers through closure.
- Coordinates with construction and facilities teams to ensure live equipment and operating systems are protected during commissioning activities.
- Supports safe startup and commissioning of new equipment and systems without impacting existing live systems or adjacent construction activities.
- Confirms equipment maintenance, preservation, and care custody requirements are maintained until formal handover.
- Supports warranty tracking and follows up on completion of warranty related corrective actions.
- Drives the transition of equipment and systems from construction to commissioning, then from commissioning to facilities ownership.
- Supports continuous improvement of commissioning processes, documentation quality, communication, and performance metrics.
- Performs all work in a safe and responsible manner and supports all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security requirements and programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Equivalent field experience in commissioning, startup, construction, facilities, QA/QC, or trade supervision may be considered in lieu of a degree.

- Semiconductor facility experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with one or more of the following disciplines is required: I&C, Life Safety Systems, Mechanical, HVAC, Process Systems, or Electrical.
- Strong understanding of construction completion, pre functional checks, functional testing, system startup, commissioning documentation, punch list management, and turnover processes.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, P&IDs, single line diagrams, control drawings, specifications, equipment data sheets, test plans, and commissioning procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards for industrial construction is preferred. Relevant standards may include ASME B31.3, NFPA 70, NFPA 54, IBC Chapter 17, and other applicable mechanical, electrical, life safety, and process system requirements.
- Experience working with commissioning software, document control systems, punch list tools, or project management platforms is preferred. Experience with PMWeb, Latista, BIM 360, Procore, or similar systems is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across contractors, field teams, engineering, quality, safety, project management, and facilities stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast paced construction environment with changing priorities, multiple systems in progress, and aggressive project milestones.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
Preferred Experience
