Introduction
The Quantum Ion Trap Integration (Sr. Section Manager) role is a technical and people leadership position within the GF Labs / Technology Development organization, reporting into the Quantum Ion Trap Lead Integrator. This role is responsible for leading a team of engineers focused on integrating the semiconductor building blocks required for scalable ion-trap-based quantum computing platforms, while bridging advanced quantum device requirements with semiconductor process integration realities. The position drives the development of manufacturable, scalable, and reliable integration schemes across BEOL CMOS, interconnect, and supporting technologies, combining strong people leadership with hands-on technical depth to enable execution of ion trap integration programs aligned with broader system and architecture objectives.
Job Summary
As a Sr. Section Manager, this role leads a team of integration engineers responsible for developing and executing semiconductor integration strategies for ion-trap quantum computing platforms, with a focus on BEOL CMOS integration, including high-voltage (HV) and RF device requirements. The position ensures alignment between device performance, process capabilities, and manufacturability goals, while driving execution across key program priorities. This individual is accountable for team development, technical direction, and overall program delivery, working cross-functionally with device engineering, process development, packaging, reliability, and manufacturing teams. The role requires a strong combination of people leadership and deep technical expertise in semiconductor integration to deliver high-performance, scalable, and production-ready quantum hardware solutions.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead semiconductor integration efforts for ion-trap quantum computing platforms, with focus on BEOL CMOS integration, photonics integration, and advanced packaging.
  • Drive yield-learning and integration debug activities, including root-cause analysis, DOE definition, and corrective action implementation.
  • Translate system and device requirements into manufacturable integration schemes, process requirements, and design rules.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of integration engineers, fostering a high-performance, collaborative engineering environment.
  • Set clear technical direction, priorities, and deliverables aligned with program milestones and organizational objectives.
  • Drive cross-functional execution with device engineering, process development, BEOL integration, packaging, reliability, and manufacturing teams.
  • Serve as a key interface to internal leadership and stakeholders, communicating integration progress, risks, and mitigation plans.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Years of Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor process or integration engineering
  • Travel: ~10%

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in semiconductor process integration, including BEOL, photonics integration, or advanced packaging
  • Familiarity with yield learning, DOE methodologies, and semiconductor metrology techniques
  • Experience working in or supporting high-volume manufacturing or advanced development environments
  • Exposure to quantum computing hardware, ion trapping technologies, or cryogenic / vacuum systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to translate complex technical data into actionable insights
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams
