How much do semiconductor internships jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 6, 2026, the average hourly pay for semiconductor internships in the United States is $18.11, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $20.91 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are semiconductor internships?

Semiconductor internships are temporary, often paid positions for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in the semiconductor industry. These internships typically involve working with professionals in areas such as chip design, manufacturing, testing, and research and development. Interns may assist with projects related to integrated circuits, microprocessors, or semiconductor materials, helping them apply classroom knowledge to real-world applications. Semiconductor internships are valuable for building technical skills, networking, and exploring potential career paths within the industry.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during a semiconductor internship?

As a semiconductor intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of hands-on projects that may include circuit design, testing and validation, data analysis, or assisting with process improvements in manufacturing. Interns often collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to support ongoing product development or research initiatives. This experience provides valuable exposure to industry-standard tools and practices, and offers opportunities to contribute meaningfully to real-world projects while developing technical and teamwork skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Semiconductor Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Semiconductor Intern, you generally need a strong background in electrical engineering, physics, or materials science, often as an undergraduate or graduate student. Familiarity with CAD tools, semiconductor fabrication equipment, and basic programming languages is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork set exceptional interns apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial for contributing to complex projects and learning in the fast-evolving semiconductor industry.

What is the difference between Semiconductor Internships vs Semiconductor Engineering Internships?

AspectSemiconductor InternshipsSemiconductor Engineering Internships
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduates in electrical engineering, materials science, or related fieldsSame as Semiconductor Internships, often requiring coursework or experience in semiconductor device physics
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, manufacturing facilities, or corporate R&D departmentsDesign, testing, and development in similar environments, often with hands-on hardware work
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by semiconductor companies, tech firms, and research institutionsCommonly used interchangeably, with a focus on engineering tasks and device development

Semiconductor Internships and Semiconductor Engineering Internships are closely related, often overlapping in required skills and work environments. The main difference lies in the focus: internships may encompass broader research or manufacturing exposure, while engineering internships emphasize device design and development tasks.

Our innovative team designs the lowest power, highest density solutions to reduce cost of test while pushing performance forward.

As an Analog Design Engineer, you will be part of a collaborative team developing leading edge ATE integrated circuits. This role is well suited for an early career engineer who is eager to learn and grow. You will contribute to the design of complex, highly integrated solutions on mixed voltage and mixed gate process technologies, while receiving hands on guidance and mentorship from experienced Senior Engineers.

This is a full-time, onsite position based in San Diego, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Schematic design and simulation of circuits for high speed and precision Analog ATE circuits.
  • Layout, preplacement and post layout simulation of circuits.
  • Monte Carlo and corner analysis.
  • Mixed signal simulation at chip level.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative circuit architectures to optimize power, performance and density.
  • Power efficient and high precision design.
  • Support IC characterization and test development to qualify for ATE specific parameters and use conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Solid analog CMOS circuit design fundamentals
  • Solid control theory fundamentals
  • Ability to design and analyze complex feedback loops
  • Stability analysis and design of compensation schemes
  • Ability to seamlessly interface with internal and external functions, including design, manufacturing, and applications teams
  • Understanding of the IC design, qualification and manufacturing cycle
  • Experience with industry standard analog and mixed signal EDA tools, including Cadence or Mentor Graphics, and experience running LVS, DRC, and ERC using Cadence or Mentor tools
  • Behavioral modeling of analog circuits for chip level simulation and validation
  • Experience programming using Verilog, Verilog-A, C, C++, and Python

Preferred Qualifications

  • High voltage (100V+) and mixed voltage design experience with multiple supply rails (6 or more)
  • Design experience in high speed multi Gbps circuits
  • Design experience with BiCMOS process technology
  • ATE specific experience
  • Experience with signal processing
