Counseling In Schools (CIS) is a dynamic community-based organization founded in 1986 with a mission to promote the emotional and social growth of children so that they can thrive in school and succeed in life. For nearly 40 years, Counseling In Schools has created and fostered relationships with local schools, homeless shelters, and communities to enable New York City’s children to thrive – academically, socially, and emotionally. Our expert team includes licensed mental health and youth development professionals who fully integrate into the community, providing programs that equip children, families, teachers, and administrators with the right tools for preventing and coping with the challenges they face. We envision and work toward a bright future, full of possibilities, where each child can flourish and reach their full potential.
Counseling In Schools is currently seeking full time Licensed Creative Arts Therapist to work in elementary and middle school school-day through afterschool programs. This role will encompass providing creative arts therapy to students during the school day and facilitate daily enrichment in afterschool groups including offer creative arts afterschool programming, developing afterschool SEL projects, and offer counseling via individual, group and family sessions, and crisis intervention during the school day to students. Additional responsibilities will include supervising 1-2 art therapy interns also on site.
Reports To: Program Director
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Serve as mental health support within school community 
  • Coordination and delegation of intern responsibilities
  • CIS and DYCD documentation
  • Facilitation of scheduled individual supervision of interns
  • Direct service provision both during school day and afterschool
  • Reports to Site Director on day to day operation of the program including any relevant intern information.
  • Attend regular meetings, clinical supervision with LCAT Supervisor and trainings within CIS.
Qualifications:
Required:
  •  LCAT, ATR
  •  Supervisory experience
  •  Positive leadership skills 
  • Effective time management
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Program schedule operates 10-6 pm, Monday-Friday; this position follows the NYC Public Schools calendar including Summer Rising Program
Preferred:
  • Experience in school-based programs (multiple location in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Jamaica, Queens)
  • Experience in afterschool programming
  • Ability to provide engaging art based recreation and SEL large group activities
  • Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Experience working with interns a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus
